RR racing sport brake kit

I am about to order the following brake kits
https://www.rr-racing.com/RR-Racing-...gt86fbk005.htm
and
https://www.rr-racing.com/BRZ-and-FR...gt86rbk002.htm

My goal is better brake performance than the stock brakes and save some weight. I don't think I need those bigger 6 piston kits since I don't track my car. I am not going for looks, I am not even ordering the colored calipers. All I care is better brake performance but not more than I need.

Based on my googling, these brakes keep the original rear/front brake balance and provide better braking performance. And, the cost is not too high.

Am I missing anything? I would appreciate any other thoughts before I order them.

What are you doing on the street where the stock brakes are failing?

NoHaveMSG 08-04-2018 12:26 PM

If you want better performance then just throw different pads in the stock calipers and swap out the fluid. All BBK does is add more thermal mass to handle heat better and prevent fade and excessive wear.

mrg666 08-04-2018 12:46 PM

Yes, I know that stock brakes can be improved with better pads, rotors, brake fluid, and ss lines. So you are saying this brake kit will not be better than what I can get from the stock brakes with a routine brake service?

LOL, I won't bite it. Not in the mood today.

If you are not tracking your car, no need.

Message CSG mike and let him know what you want and your application. He is really good about helping people select a product that would work.

Wasn't trying to start anything. What msg said.

Okay, you guys saved me more than a grand. I will be ordering a brake service package from ft86sf instead. It was going to be more fun installing the BBK but this will also be fun. Yey, a couple hours of wrench time!

BTW, there is only one thing that can be done on the street: drive within legal limits. And this is what I am doing.

Sapphireho 08-04-2018 01:52 PM

My street brake setup.

DBA 4000 drilled and slotted rotors
DS2500 Ferodo brake pads
Perrin master cylinder brace
Mann Engineering Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Torco RT700 Brake Fluid

WinMax W2 on stock solid rotors with G-four brake fluid. DD and track work awesome

I actually run Wilwood 6 Piston front and 4 Piston rear, drilled and slotted with the B10 pad. I would have to say yes, there is a difference between my StopTech pads and Centric blank rotors (stock calipers) from a pure street driving perspective.

First off, with the slotted rotors, you get a rumbling sensation in the brake pedal and even the whole entire car if you apply light brake pressure. It seems go away with more brake pressure.

The pedal travel is less to get the car to begin diving. I have to re-learn braking points and how much brake pressure to apply. More times than not, I come to a stop sooner than expected accidentally.

Also, psychologically I do feel more confident with the car because I felt stock brakes were under-boosted compared to like a Corolla or a Camry personally. I usually brake earlier with the stock brakes because they don't have that massive bite down that other overly boosted brakes are.

I don't think stopping distance decreased or increased, but with the torque these brakes deliver, it's feels confident inspiring. Also knowing that my brake distance will be repeatedly the same and it can take more abuse/heat, it psychologically helps me as well.

I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed with the 4 Piston or 6 Piston. I think the red really pops with my Work Wheels :)

I too have Wilwood 6pot front and 4 pot rear with BP10 pads and I don't get rumbling... You might want to check that out.. just sayin!

How long have you had it? I think it's because mine is still pretty new.

SuperTom 08-08-2018 02:39 PM

@mrg66 I wouldn't have listened to everyone here. You are supercharged I would have went with the big brake kit. You are able to get to high speeds faster, meaning you need to stop faster + the extra weight on the nose

I have Wilwood 6pot (Bp30) front, Wildwood 4pot (B10) rear setup on my C5. I get some rumbling on my front braking but the rear is smooth. Im thinking of putting in BP10 pads upfront + I think my passenger side caliper is defective. Cars pulls left when braking and I get a squeal from that caliper even after proper bedding procedure and multiple bleeds and fresh grease.

What about a BBK do you believe provide more breaking force? AP and Stoptech front kits shift bias rearward, meaning they are providing less force then stock.

Less than a year total. 2 track days on em. But I don't think I've ever felt anything rumbling. :/

I'll try and do some light braking and see if I notice anything of that nature :)

Tires also play an important role in stopping distance.

I can appreciate wanting better brake performance daily driving. I recently went from Project Mu HC800 hybrid pads on Hankook RS3 to Stoptech Sports on GT Radial SX2 and miss the immediate bite of my old setup. But they also ate my rotors every 30k miles and dust like a mofo. I may switch back after these wear out and just live with the more constant change since they are cheap enough (though the stoptechs are still a fair bit cheaper).

I've also driven on Winmax W3 and liked those for daily as well.

I definitely don't have any rumbling that I can attribute to the brakes.. I've got solid or near solid mounts all over the place though too!

What slotted rotors do you have? The ones I have are like these, which could also be why I don't feel the rumble - https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/02...g?v=1498158262

I have these rotors.

I think it might be the directional slots causing the issue.
