Is Stoner Invisible Glass safe for Tinted Windows?
Does anybody know if Stoner Invisible Glass cleaner is safe for factory tinted windows for the Scion FR-S? The product says it's safe for tinted windows when used as directed. The ingredients are not listed so I don't know if it contains ammonia or not.
Also, has anybody tried using steel wool (fine grade) to polish their windshield? I saw a guy on YouTube do it. He claims it's a trick that detailers use. Can anybody back that up? |
Invisible Glass is ammonia-free, it is tint-safe. The "used as directed" is just a CYA statement.
0000 grade steel wool is USUALLY safe for glass, although there was one instance where I saw it lightly scratch glass. That was an isolated incident and I haven't seen it since then, but just be careful and try in an out of the way spot first. |
as stated above, IG is ammonia free and tint safe
Some guys love it, but i've found it streaks sometimes. I usually stick with 'sprayway' which is a widely available foaming glass cleaner. you can get this at basically any local big store down the cleaning aisle. it is also ammonia free and tint safe I certainly don't know every trick but I've never put steel wool to glass. Clay bar followed by some type of cleaner wax or 'all in one' type of product usually cleans it up nicely. you can do by hand, but a DA is easier / more effective. if you need more bite beyond a cleaner wax, DP makes a glass restorer product (non abrasive) or you can try a strong compound like meguiars m105 (abrasive) |
The IG looks like it streaks (trust me, I'm OCD about it), but that's only because the rain repellent hasn't dried yet. I must have done my windshield over about 3 times and thought it was still streaking so I said hell with it and went inside.
I came out an hour or so later and the streaks were gone, drove home and it started to rain a bit, it all just beaded off no problem. Didn't even have to use the wipers. |
Stoner is like Frank's Red Hot. I put that sh-- on everything shiny (not paint). Great cleaner.

The spray can says on the front "Tint-Safe". So I hope it is. the ammonia, like others have stated, is what will ruin the tint.

IG is safe, yes.... but I personally prefer Eagle One 20/20 or the new Meguiar's Perfect Clarity glass cleaner. IG likes to streak for me for some reason.

Yeah, I've used Stoners IG for the last 10 years or so and it is definitely safe on tinted windows. I've been trying the foaming Sprayaway glass cleaner lately, and for he most part I like it, but I hate how the foam just goes everywhere when I spray it on the windows, not nearly as controllable a spray pattern as SIG.

Factory tint??? If the tint is in the glass, nothing will harm it. If you mean aftermarket tint film, Stoners is safe.
Steel wool? Don't think so. I believe many, many years ago Pat Goss (on MotorWeek) did a segment on glass cleaning and I think he used bronze wool, not steel wool. |
