HKS Hipermax SP coilover settings
 

Hoping anyone who is running these can chime in on what settings you are running, both damping/compression plus alignment specs & lowering.


Have a track day this Thuesday and need to get these installed and aligned before then.

Specific settings are going to depend on other variables as well as your personal preference. How much do you want to lower the car? Are you running any sway bars? What tires are you going to run? Did you get adjustable rear lower control arms and camber bolts? What tracks are you going to run at? What amount of track vs daily driving are you going to do?

Honestly, there are too many questions to ask so I suggest you install them at standard settings and adjust from there based on your preference.

I'm just looking for a starting point. Figured starting with someone else's shock setup would help me get up to speed faster on Thursday.


Car will be lowered ~1". I'm running 255/40R17 RS4s, stock sways and end-links, stock rear arms.

Oh guess I should preface this with the fact that I'm on HKS GT IVs. Just the more street oriented version of the SPs.

You won't have any rear camber adjustment without rear lower control arms so that will just end up where it does. I'd just ask for 0 toe for now and ask for as much camber up front as they can give you. It will probably only be around -2.5 without bolts if the top hats are similar to mine.

Considering you're in Kitchener, I'm guessing you are going to TMP Cayuga? I'm not personally familiar with the track but I know it's pretty rough and bumpy so you may want to dial the dampening back a bit and make it softer. Start at around 4 clicks from full soft front and rear and see how you like it and stiffen from there if you find uneven behaviour between the front and the rear.

I will be going to TMP Cayuga sometime next week or the week after.

Do you have the HKS adjuster for the rear coilovers? I'm curious what shape (and size) it is? I bought my coils used, and am still waiting for the HKS adjuster to arrive.

Was hoping it is a std size so I could adjust it using regular hex keys.

I'll have to check, pretty sure it's just a long hex but not certain about the size. It's buried somewhere in my car and I'm at work so I can't check right now but I'll confirm for you later.

So I've misplaced mine. Normally keep it in my tool bag or in my glove box but it doesn't seem to be in either place. I know I pulled it out to make some adjustments a little over a week ago for national autocross championship and realize I haven't seen it since... I think it left the car that day and may not have made it back in... so it's probably sitting in a field somewhere that I won't have access to until next regional or national championship in the area...

So let me know what you find when you get your adjuster...

Finally received it! The HKS adjuster is a hex and measures 0.119" by my vernier

Looks like 3mm, although a 1/8" might also work.
