FR-S alarm system
When you guys were buying your FR-S did you think it was a requirement from the dealership?
What do you guys think? Any aftermarket recommendations? |
The dealership told me they don't have an alarm for the car yet and they might not even make it for it. Not gunna wait around for something that might not come out. For now i bought a cheap $300 alarm system getting installed next week. Better safe than sorry.
I plan on upgrading later. I hear viper is good alarm. |
I know they have the ignition start prevention system with the specific chip in the keys for your car. But my girlfriend the other day went to one of her grandparent's friend who knew how to copy these keys for less than 100$ with a machine. I doubt that just having that system would keep thieves away. I was told by my sales rep that Toyota came out with this on all their cArs starting from 2008. But did that stop any thieves from taking toyotas from then till now? What do you guys think!

For the petty car theives the immobilizer is more than enough since these guys are looking for easy targets. For the pro car theif, all an alarm does is slow them down a bit. If their pros and they want your car, they will steal it. It's the smash and grab guys you really need to worry about. Keep valuables out of site and you automaticly reduce your odds of those type of break in.

At least having an alarm w/red light flashing is 50% chance better than nothing !
I will try to install ALARM on mine asap. The FRS/BRZ/86 will be on the hottest list. My total cost now at ~ $29,000 ! |
Just install a flashing red light on your dash. They will think you have an alarm.

Scion Security is not something that I've seen on the future FRS options/accessories sheet. Are there any dealers or insiders who know if it will be offered for next year?
|
My dealership was saying something about rebate warranty, alarm system not included.. No idea what that meant shouldve asked him
|
This thread seems to have died off, so I'll give it a bump with my question.
I need an new alarm for my Tacoma. The aftermarket one I had installed in 98 when I bought it has 1 of 2 controllers dead and I can't get a replacement. I'm looking for a mid-range unit that has a motion sensor, starter kill, and can do power locks. Anything else beyond that is icing on the cake. Anyone have some good suggestions for a unit? |
Whatever is on sale and does the job from Best Buy etc.
Too bad there was no dealer option. I did order the alarm from the dealer for my xB. Basically there is a flashing LED and stickers on the windows. It could easily be "faked" but all that means is the robber will smash your window and not run after there is no howl. |

Still figuring out this alarm thing on my frs that toyota dealer installed..do I have to activate it? I read the manual and says has to be activated by scion dealer but they told me thats already installed and has the low jack thing were its disables the engine/ecu ect..
When I lock the door with the remote and wait like a min then I open the car with the key and the alarm wont beep/go off..also tried like pushing/bang on the windows and no alarm goes off..this have like motion alarm ? Seems like its not activated and only locks/opens door/trunk and panic alarm beeps if I hold the panic button down.. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LoJack#How_it_works There is an upgraded version that sends you alerts if your car is moved without a paired keyfob nearby though (although I've read that it even can have lot of false positives sometimes if your keyfob isn't working right or has a weak battery, etc.). |

Also can I adjust/set it myself ? Or has to be done by dealer only? Thanks |

So the FRS actually does come with a factory alarm that is simply deactivated? Why isn't this anywhere on the website?
I have heard this before, but have not seen any evidence to support the notion. Can anyone confirm this? |

I tested that too- sat in my car and locked the car with the key in the "off" position. If I then open the door or even start the car, the alarm will go off. BUT, if I lock the car AFTER I turn the key to the "on" position so that the radio functions etc. then I can unlock or start the car without the alarm going off. |

meh ive owned alarms on my two previous cars and both still got broken into. smash n grab people dont care about honking horns. and any pro car theif who really wants the car will get it anyway. ive given up on alarms just keep things out of sight and dont park in shady places. every time i hear an alarm in a parking lot i just assume its someones annoying alarm giving off a false alarm. and if it was a real thief how many people would go out of their way to go see whats up?

verizon has a camera that i can put on my deck (3rd floor) that will connect to my computer. really should get one. i think getting their license plate # or good visual of their vehicle would be more important than scaring them off.
also, isn't there a way to match your phone or a website with a way to immobilize your car, if it's stolen? other than lo-jack, i mean |

My FR-S apparently rolled off the truck with an alarm, but I had to pay to have it activated. It's the standard alarm noise and engine killswitch setup, with a flashing blue light under the dash. If you park on the street a lot (e.g. in your neighborhood, at work, etc) or don't park in a garage, I would suggest springing for one. Not only does it deter the petty thieves when they see the alarm light/stickers, but mine apparently came with a certificate that pretty much guarantees a discount on my insurance due to the killswitch for the engine.
Now the only thing I'm paranoid about is someone dinging/keying the car :| |

I've thought about getting a Viper alarm or something along those lines. My problem is i don't want to carry around a big remote as well as the "smart" key. Just makes for more weight and taking up alot of pocket space. Maybe i'll check on those Alarms that work through the Smartphones again.
