Momentum Matters
This isn't anything that most don't already know, but I just happened to capture some video the highlighted it perfectly, IMO. This was at Road America through the carousal(10) and Kink(11)*.
Obviously the GT3 is a much faster car and it puts a couple car lengths between us at the exit of the carousal but slows for the kink where I maintain more speed. If you listen carefully the GT3 gets back on the throttle after the carousal but I'm still catching it, so despite accelerating much faster it puts very little distance between us to the next corner. Once we get to the main straight the GT3 powers away without issue. People refer to low horsepower cars as momentum cars, but every car is a momentum car if you want to go fast. Hopefully this video highlights this. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC1Z6CdRHls[/ame] *I'm not going to give the GT3 driver a hard time here as the kink is a high stakes corner. I could also be carrying a bit more speed through there but choose not to as this is a hobby and I'm not going to win anything at a trackday. |
Nice vid. I'm going there this weekend. Kinda excited as it'll be my first time there, but with the forecast weather also a bit scared. fingers crossed!

I totally agree with what your's saying but I think your video more clearly shows that seat time is more important than horse power or how expensive the car is!

Amen! Seat time on track, taken with a specific goal to work on or improve is even better than just seat time alone too! :) |
No seat time in real life but having turned many many laps at RA in sims I'd say balls have much to do with that turn. I bet you could do the kink flat if you're car was free. Hahaha

I just did a session this morning at a local track and I was passing cars that have more power than me just by having more momentum through the corners. The only power mods I have are a cat back so negligible power gains and I was able to pass a Harrop supercharged 86 and a few with headers and no cats. I found having ad08r tires and t3 rotors and better pads made all the difference compared to last track day

This one of my favorite tracks in real life and sim racing. Nice, heel toe downshifts going into Canada corner btw, smoothly done, you didn't seem to upset the chassis doing it. That takes a lot of skill.
