sorry another wrx vs brz
 

I'm looking to buy my next car and went to the local Subaru dealer to check out the WRX and BRZ. My previous cars were the Civic Si and BMW 328i. I like the practicality of the WRX and the power numbers. The BRZ looks way better IMO. Got to test drive both and loved the BRZ. Coming from NA cars, it was so easy to drive and the steering, light feel and handling was awesome. Then test drove the WRX and I hated it. It felt really heavy in comparison, shifting gears was a chore, and couldn't stand the unpredictable turbo feel. During the test drive I got to experience some stop and go traffic with the WRX and it was a pain with the weird clutch grab point and throttle response. I looked like a total noob driving stick even though I've driven stick for over 20 years. The BRZ was like second nature.
And for some reason, even though the WRX was a lot faster, I didn't feel like I was going faster because it felt so numb. The BRZ has great feel and I know exactly how fast I'm going.
But, unfortunately I'm at the age where I'm gonna get married and have kids soon so the practicality factor comes in again.

Buy the BRZ and then let the wife have the practical car ;)

That's why you buy the BRZ now. You don't have to worry about "practicality" YET, and it'll be easier to hang on to a car you already have than convince your wife to let you get one later.

Trade in the wife and kids for a BRZ :bonk:

How long do you keep cars? We have an SUV and a BRZ and when we have to put someone in the back seat, it's the SUV. Most likely, you and your wife will each have a car. How well do you share?

Just marry the right kind of wife. I have a BRZ; my girlfriend has an STi. She eventually wants to sell it for a Lotus Elise. She despises minivans, and insists that our children will have to deal with riding in something sporty no matter what because while she doesn't want to drive the Lotus in the winter, she also doesn't want to drive something "boring." Though she's totally open to the option of some fun SUV thing as a third vehicle, but basically neither of us will allow the other one to sell their sports cars so... we good here, lol.

Oh man that's a keeper and a half right there. Mine's the same. Planning to mod her Mini after our wedding. Hates the lack of sound and wants a louder exhaust haha. Also helps that we decided we aren't having kids.

You’re in a pickle. Everything you say is BRZ except practicality. I have my tS but kept my old Legacy wagon (good for stuff and winter driving).

I’d recommend getting a BRZ and something boring but practical like a Fit or Legacy whatnot. I kept my old Legacy but it’s only worth $4-5k sure you can find something nice used.

The WRX tries to be both sporty and practical but fails a bit at both.

The BRZ only good at being sporty which it sounds like you want.

Wow! My wife and I have made the same decision together. NO KIDS! We have been married 11 years.


OP, Start saving for your wedding now! It will probably cost the same as a BRZ. Mine did!!!!

and that's a rather inexpensive wedding at that.

Doing the math shows that my wedding is right on target to be the same as I spent on the FRS... :sigh:



Back on topic, the Fiance likes big cars, so I get to keep my little one(s) and she has the SUV. It works out.

Just always have a daily driver..... makes life easier.

My wife and I are also perfectly happy without the drain on time, money and sanity known as children. We also agreed that we didn’t want to blow a bunch of money on our wedding... we would have been fine with a courthouse marriage but we had a small/cheap wedding so that close friends and family could attend.

To the OP... I’ve owned both a WRX and now the BRZ and you are correct, the WRX just feels numb and I got bored of it fairly quickly. Just get the BRZ and worry later about children. You can use the backseat in the BRZ... it just requires more effort than the WRX.
