What to do while in Scottsdale
Staying at my sister's house in Scottsdale this Thurs to the following Fri.
Since this was a last minute thing and I will be there myself and don't have family to hang out with for the week I was wondering if anyone can recommend things to do that are not the obvious and typical tourist things. It's the not so obvious stuff, or anything that might particularly interest a twin owner too I'd like to know about. Even if there is an amazing place to eat that shouldn't be missed. Most likely I will return with my family at a future date or several afterward so this could be very useful. Fully aware of the heat, it's the same temps in the Toronto area but with high humidity. |
Crickets, especially this time of year lol. I
'll just have to mind the 100+ temperatures in the pool. |
Frank Loyd Wright's Taliesin design school is worth a look-see if you're interested in architecture.
Costs some money, but there's nice furniture and campus. Oh! And then there's always tripping seniors at the Safeway. That's all I've got. |

Thanks for the tips. Taleisin SW does sound interesting and I do like his designs very much incidentally.
Regards to driving, going to the Grand Canyon and Tucson aviation museum is plenty of driving for the week if not too much. I found it disturbing the Bondurant site uses the word "metastasize" on their cover page. I don't find the need for that type of talk. |
plan on your escape...................

You will have your car?
- Show up to the Eastside AZ86 meet in Mesa - Too hot to hike this time of year, though I have LOL wouldn't recommend it. - drive up through the forest - downtown scottsdale - golf ? |

When/where do the 86 people meet? I saw a chick at Fry's in a black FR-S today lol. Is there such thing as an air conditioned golf course? When temps hit 115, it wreaks havoc on my game! Which forest, the petrified one? Was there/here last just before starting h8gh school. Now that my sister has a lovely home here I should be able to come down from time to time. As it is I am alone here for a week! Just enough time to drive up to the Grand Canyon and down to Tucson for the airplane museum. Darn, need 10 business days advance for security clearance to tour the bone yard. Next time. Thanks for the suggestions and if there is any type of casual twins meet I'd drive by to say hi. Unfortunately my brother in law hasn't yet shipped his '60 Corvette LS3 resto-mod down yet. That might turn some heads. Looks brand new. Cars look great here, barely ever see dirty ones. Unfortunately the climate where I live destroys cars for 4+ months of the year. Thanks for the tips. |

Tuesday: https://www.instagram.com/p/BkxuV-4gxoH/?hl=en Wednesday: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk0KXu2AoOm/?hl=en If you want more car meet things to do, there's a McDonald's Classic Car show over at the Scottsdale Pavilions every Saturday. This time of year, I believe it starts at 5:00 pm, and usually ends around 8:00 or 9:00 pm. It's also just a meet for a lot of different car enthusiasts in the valley, so it's not only classics. People bring their miatas, subarus, camaros, mclarens, lifted trucks. All sorts of things all throughout the car spectrum. |
Tuscon, Flagstaff and Sedona open up a lot more options.
Mt. Lemmon, the cactus loop in Suguaro NP east. Lowell observatory is higher and cooler than the lowlands. Just Sedona. Then there's the open carry swap meet / homeless camp at Quartzite. |
Go tubing :) I'm going this weekend
http://www.saltrivertubing.com/ or https://www.k1speed.com/ should be pretty close |
I'll be in Tucson for the next couple of weeks... definitely going to try to meet up with some of y'all AZ 86s!

Did the Apache trail all the way to Lake Roosevelt today. Started really early as I am 2 hrs ahead still.
Haven't been in the AZ desert since just before starting high school. Makes me think of Lightening McQueen and 'Ol Doc Hudson.:) |
Depending on a few things, might show up at the Mesa meet.
PS- I am an old man, but still an enuthusiast!!! |
