TOB in clutch kits

Does anyone know if the throw out bearing in an aftermarket clutch kit is the OEM part or is it also an aftermarket part?

Regardless, is the TOB in the kit equivalent or does it exceed the quality of the 2017 OEM TOB?

I bought an Exedy Stage 1 kit, and Im trying to determine if it is necessary to buy the MY2017+ TOB. FYI, I bought the Verus fork and pivot and Motul.

Buy the newest, maybe TOB got revised and improved

I think SKF sells them even before they get the Subaru badge. Just make sure it's the latest revision.

The reason I'm curious is the OEM clutch is Exedy, so I was wondering if Exedy supplied the original TOB to Toyubaru and also the new TOB (MY17+); ie, will the TOB in the kit I bought be the new TOB or the old TOB, or be an aftermarket similar to the old or similar to the knew.

How can the old and the new OEM TOBs be visually differentiated? Don't say look at the product number on the package unless that is the only way.

The new one has a white dot.

That’s what I needed.

The other possibility is the Exedy kit uses a different manufacturer for the TOB, or if the dot is placed by Toyota or Subaru and not the manufacturer then the Exedy TOB could be updated but not have a dot.

If I don’t see a dot then I’ll call/email Exedy.

I think Exedy is the OEM suppiler for the stock clutches and flywheel for these cars. So I would think they would use OEM throwout bearing? Maybe? Either way, I also have the Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch setup. I bought it before the service bulletin but won't install it until I'm done with my engine rebuild. I don't trust the TOB in the kit and will opt for a new one from the dealer. Unless if there is a manufacture date on your clutch kit, it could be old stock? Just to be safe, get a new one with the dot.

The OS Giken clutch kits have a completely different TOB, that eliminates the failure. It is, physically, much larger and heavier.

The kit has to be designed around the larger TOB to use it; you cannot just slap on the OSG TOB.

Similar to the Ace header, the OSG is one of the most expensive clutches on the market, but is all-inclusive; just how the Ace header includes all hardware and an overpipe with every header, the OSG clutch includes an upgraded TOB, fork, and clutch line.

I wish there was more visually different between the two than a dot. I wonder what changed if the housing is identical.

I think it was either the wrong grease or not enough. It was mentioned somewhere in one of the other threads.

It's also mentioned in the TSB linked by Ultramaroon.

Right. I didn’t read that.

Seems like if what they said is true then a lot of people just need to learn to not rest their foot on the clutch pedal. It also seems like if driver error was the problem then it wouldn’t lead to a TSB.

...along with that bullshit weasel line about owners resting their foot on the clutch pedal.

Fuuuuck you, Subaru.

All-inclusive unnecessary bling. I am disappoint.
