gauge issue

soo all sudden my gauge dash stop working i replace the 7.5 fuse and it blows try 10 it blows, try a 15 and it blows idk what the issue is but i need it cause i cant use my turn signal and the alternator not charging battery :(

Brz_racer 06-29-2018 11:21 PM

My bet is on the alternator, probably has a short internally and is causing the problem.

dynomite619 06-29-2018 11:28 PM

soo removing the connections on the alternator and retrying the fuses again would eliminate the shortage ?

Brz_racer 06-29-2018 11:32 PM

Yeah that's what I would try, if it doesnt blow the fuse you know you have a failed alternator

humfrz 06-29-2018 11:41 PM

Whatever it is, I wouldn't keep putting bigger fuses in the slot …. or you will find the problem, when something starts smoking...:(

Like suggested, you may wish to check the alternator.

Then, I would look for a short … what is the last electrical thing you did with the car??

The fuse blows because you're drawing too much current. Putting a larger one in is only going to damage something or cause a fire. Stop doing that...

Chances are something went wrong with your install and you have a hot wire grounding out. That would be my first guess.

Whatever you did, undo it, and see what happens.

The battery should read more than 12 volts. When the alternator is working, it should read about 13.5 volts at the battery.

Yep, it sounds like you have a dead short in that circuit.

Did you install the amp? If so, like suggested, you may wish to check your work. If someone else installed the amp, I'd suggest you take it back to them and ask them to sort it out.

That ought to keep you busy tomorrow .. :confused0068:

Well, OK. Which fuse keeps blowing, more importantly, what other accessories does that fuse control?

This is going to be a PITA but either you need to check every cable coming from the cluster yourself or take it to a reputable shop that does it until you/they find the grounded cable.

Brz_racer 06-30-2018 11:50 AM

Get a code reader and check for codes too, might be surprised and find something there
