2018 SCCA Solo Nationals

Registration opens July 2

Who's showing up?
Will SSC break 100 entries?
Does anybody care?

steverife 06-26-2018 12:04 PM

I'll be there for the Finale and nats.

I think SSC will be healthy, but nowhere near some of the numbers people are talking. I hope it is, though. ...and I hope lots of slow people come out to get that trophy count up. :)

Twinz 06-26-2018 03:10 PM

Myself, Tonda, and my Brother will be in SSC.

Bitters 06-26-2018 04:39 PM

I am still undecided. We'll see how Packwood goes first.

Imp 06-26-2018 07:23 PM

Work permitting, I'll be there. :)

ryejeff 06-27-2018 08:21 AM

I still haven't joined the FRS/BRZ crew, but I'll be there. Running STS as a tire-warmer in a 1991 Miata.

kbucks 07-17-2018 07:30 PM

I'll be there, SSC. Have a co-driver and my girlfriend is running SSCL with a co-driver. Also I think there are 4 other SSC drivers from my region coming too.

justinco 07-18-2018 12:05 AM

Hopefully everyone got in. Filled up super fast this year. Going to try and make the Pro finale but missed my 3rd Pro earlier in the year.

How many points you have?

Tier 2 is going to be F5 reg I'd think...

In for Nats - Doing Oscoda here soon and hopefully that sets me up for Tier 1 at the Finale.

steverife 07-18-2018 09:04 AM

Yeah. I hope Tier 2 isn't too crazy.

Looks like about 6 of us in SSC are looking for a strong finish in Oscoda to move up a tier or move up in the standings. Should be wild. I hope I'm a part of the mix.

Not enough...2 bad Pro performances make the chances of getting in slim to none.

Simmons 07-18-2018 07:12 PM

I will be there in STX for Pro finale and Nat's.

fyi, the entry cap was raised to 1400 w/o Jr. karts so a bunch of people on the
wait list are in. with the expected drop-outs over the next month i expect anybody
registering soon will get in if you want to go ahead and sign up.

DS 93, expecting to see a lot of taillights of Camaros, CTR's & WRX's. :(

PointDSM 07-18-2018 11:50 PM

Running DS, #56. First nationals trip, and just hoping to be competitive in the midfield. One of those things that after doing this since age 16 (now 30), that I need to do while life gives me the opportunity.

Twinz 07-19-2018 02:35 PM

Just skimming the numbers with the new cap hit, it looks like SSC is the 4th-largest class at Nationals.

Considering that this is SSC's first year in existence and the class is made up of a single platform, I think the numbers are impressive. (57 open / 12 ladies.)

DaWorstPlaya 07-20-2018 12:47 PM

Not bad for a new class huh? Cya guys at Nats.

Locust 07-25-2018 09:48 PM

Anyone in STX looking for a co-driver?

edj 08-17-2018 04:48 PM

run/work order and course maps are up on the SCCA site.

6 heats on our days..ouch (STX).

Also, 5th heat again for STX? Isn't that what we had last year...looking forward melting in the heat again :(

Simmons 08-17-2018 07:07 PM

Going to be long days...…

Yes 5th heat again sucks, but at least it’s tues/wed so hopefully less opr.

Also the weather reports say it’s “supposed” to be cooler than normal. We’ll see lol.

If 5th heat was anything like Spring Nats, be prepared to be mentally checked out and forget the course by the time you run

Indeed, definitely makes it challenging. Spring events were so hot... Hopefully it is cooler like Brandon mentioned.

Imp 08-20-2018 02:47 PM

SSC is now up to 63 in open and 12 Ladies. Making it the 2nd largest open class, and largest combined.

Yeah, the class sucks and won't work. Bad idea to even offer it.

Also, SSC runs 1st... almost like they know how bad the tires don't like heat.

In D-Street, the monsoon conditions Tuesday created a very interesting situation in that it water levels were so high, that the skinnier tires of the twins were more beneficial that AWD of the WRX's. The wide-tired WRX's and Camaro's simply hydroplaned too easily. Driver ability in the wet also factored a bit, as the best conditions were on the 1st/3rd runs, with the 2nd run being seconds slower for almost everyone. Interesting Nationals!

- Eric Niemi (#56 D-Street)

justinco 09-07-2018 07:50 PM

Tuesday was the craziest day I've ever seen at Nationals, or any time being in Lincoln for an event for that matter...

bslate3 09-08-2018 01:18 PM

It was an interesting but fun trip to Nats again. Had fun hanging out and racing with the STX guys and gals. See y’all again next year!

edj 09-08-2018 04:41 PM

i was impressed with how well the FR-S on Bridgestones did in the wet on Tuesday.
on Wednesday, i was less impressed with how far behind i was to cars with 150+ hp more than me... :(

PointDSM 09-09-2018 11:05 AM

Nice run on Tuesday Eric! Per data my 3rd run was definitely my fastest until I over drove and DNF'd after the wallom. Lot of grip out there even with Bridgestones, and I was able in the build some tire pressure even.

At the national level, with the STI/EVO/Focus RS coming to DS next year, I think this car may be done in street class (locally it's fine though).

M0nk3y 09-10-2018 09:44 AM

The Twin in DS has been dead for quite sometime. IMO.

Anyways, another fun year at Nats with a disappointing finish. Basically the story of my life lol.

ProSolo Saturday morning I had a good start with some obvious mistakes - Took the opportunity Saturday afternoon to improve and drop some time, but ended up coning away overall 7 tenths worth of improvements on both sides combined and was jumped by a couple people who took advantage. I was pretty pissed, thought Sunday was going to be completely wet. We had a drying right side and a partially wet left - enough that times weren't going to improve over there. I was able to put a run together, not great but it was clean an enough for me to retake the lead and finish with a full 70 points for the Pro Finale.

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smNf1su6CTo[/ame]

Nats was rough. Tuesday had to deal with drying conditions and simply just didn't have the correct combination to be up there with times (Single driver, BFGs on a colder day and drying conditions). Tried to throw together a final run but got too close to 121 and nipped it with my rear wheel, thus ending any opportunity of a jacket.

Wednesday I wanted to take STX FTD, and I did. However still not really happy with the run. Data shows a 67.6 just based off my 3 runs, I'm convinced a 67.4 was out there.

Yeah, you kinda did everything just right. Nice driving and nice meeting you out there.

Not sure if I missed it, but is this your 1st year autoxing? Also, now that the event is over, mind sharing your alignment/shock settings like most other SSC peeps?

Haha you say that as if I've kept mine a secret. I shared them instantly with anyone that has asked. I'm pretty sure I did as well on the SSC Facebook page.
Not my first year autoxing. My first yr was 2008 with 2 events, deployed for a yr returned, 3 events early 2010 broken car in 2010ish, I had a decent 2011/12 with about 12 events. Deployed, returned Oct 13, bought a 1.8 stsm miata did about 6 events deployed most of 2014, caught a few events at the end of 14 into 15. Had ankle surgery that took me out may-aug. Went to nats in STX with just 1 events in the car. Maybe 5-6 events after 15 nats until summer of 16 when I deployed for year thru August of 17. Caught 3-4 local events then deployed again in March 18, came back early june ecause of some health issues with the family. Bought a friends old D street car and the first event was lateJuly. .

Bars stiff stiff. 1/2 turn from soft on both ends. 31.5 and 30 psi. I will repost/ send the alignment sheet through Facebook
