Switching from OFT to Ecutek

Has anyone done that? Is it really as simple as reload the factory ecu rom back to the car using OFT and then unmarried the device? Does this wipe all OpenFlash codes out of your ecu cleanly with no issue later on when install ecutek tune?

Yes, I used the OFT in the past. I unmarried the device and flashed back the stock tune. Now I am using an Ecutek tune without any issues.

I did this last week. You need to flash your original rom onto your ecu using the oft. After that openflash manager will allow you to erase all data on the tablet. This “unmarries” the device from your car. Click the download button in openflash manager after erasing the device. It should say the tablet has never been used.

Do these steps before installing the ecutek license and flashing your ecu with pro ecu. Your oft will remain locked to your car otherwise.

Do I have to connect the tablet to the car when unmarrying/erasing data from the tablet?

Once the OFT is locked onto a vehicle, is there anyway to still unmarry it still? My tuner said it'd be no problem and ended up being wrong. Now I have an OFT collecting dust lol

Yes unfortunatly tuner is wrong. The oft need to write back the stock rom in its memory to your car. Unfortunately it cannot do this now as ecutek locks ecu to ecutek system.

If the tuner wrote back a stock tune to car with ecutek it would unlock ecu, but if you then used oft to write back the oft stock rom you will loose your ecutek licience.

If the tuner is prepared to renew your ecutek licience then you could unmarry oft that way.

Otherwise you wont be able to unmarry the oft easily.

I can do it but you would need to mail the oft unit and cables to me

You only need the tablet connected to the car to flash the original rom. Th erase data step is done when connected to a pc using openflash manager.

I’ll definitely write back the stock rom first using OFT before installing ecutek custom tune. Even though it means I may have to deal with couple days of CEL in between the tunes lol.

Sorry to bring this thread back, I’m ready to move on to ecutek next week. I will do the following with my OFT, please correct me if I’m wrong or missing steps.

1. Flash stock ROM back to the car
2. Connecticut OFT to my pc and delete all the tune files on it and unmarry it

Are these all?

Yes

Write stock tune back from slot called original

Then on PC use erase function to completly erase and unmarty tablet, this is different to just erasing tunes. The full erase requires conmectoon to internet to talk to oft servers to confirm erase

After I install the stock rom back to the car, is there a way to verify the ecu indeed contains the stock rom?
