Does a built motor require a tune?
I was thinking about upgrading my rods valve springs and pistons and was wondering if i would need to get a tune right after? Im trying to get forged pistons with a cr of 10:1 and was wondering if I need a tune if im lowering the cr. I also have a turbo kit I'm going to install after installing the rods and pistons and valve springs. But if i don't require a tune for just the rods, pistons and valve springs than I wouldn't mind driving the car around with just a built motor in order to break everything in.

You are changing basically characteristics of your engine like pistons and compression ratio. You definitely need a tune, since the existing tune will not be optimal. Why don't you install the turbo kit together?

I didn't want to install the turbo kit because i wanted to break in the built motor first. But my tuner told me that the power goals im aiming for the stock components can handle. So i might just save my money instead

Christ, a stock motor requires a tune.

Whether you have the turbo on or not, as long as you stay within the break in specs, nothing will go wrong. You drive it without a tune on lowered compression ratio, you will have more to worry about than a break in period.

That being said I would want at least a stage 1 tune and do a good data log to make sure nothing is out of wack. You don't want to burn up a new engine because the stock settings are too far off. |
I apologize in advance for reviving an old thread but I just wanted to know if a newly built engine should start after only changing the compression ratio without a new base map. My car has been in the shop getting forged internals for the past couple months and now will not start..

PS - I'd suggest you make sure the ECU is screwed down tight (grounded). humfrz |
More like the amplifier box
