Loud Sudden Rattling/Scraping Noise from Left Front Wheel
 

Hi all,


I'm hoping someone may be able to help me figure out what's causing this scary noise from my car. Car feels completely fine and secure all the way up to 112km/h, and then at 113km/h a sudden rattling and scraping noise is made in the area of the left front wheel. When I back off a little bit from that speed, the sound is gone again. Couldn't find any obstructions in the wheel area.

OK, I'm pretty sure I answered my own question. I had removed the fibreglass underpanel that covers the exhaust/transmission in anticipation of some work being done, but not the metal underpanel beneath the steering area. I looked underneath and was pretty much able to recreate the noise from the metal underpanel banging against the subframe since it was no longer resting on the fibreglass one. I'm pretty certain that's what's causing the noise - I'll leave this post on here for information in case anyone else is as boneheaded as I am!
