Next level after stage 2 -Flex fuel kit and gears?

I currently have an cat less uel header and running the OFT stage 2 tune.

Considering buying the flex fuel kit from open flash performance.

and maybe some 4.56 gears...

Those of you that use the flex fuel kit can you chime in on you experience and let me know how noticeable some e85 or gears is over just the stage 2 mods.

Thanks!

Curious as well. I’ve been doing E85 with the OFT for about a month and it feels fantastic, really doesn’t need anymore power as a DD in my opinion... but it doesn’t hurt :D would love flexfuel for convenience sake and 4.56 gears for a little more “pep”.

how noticeable is the e85 over just the stage 2 tune?

Difference between my 93 tune and E85 tune = feels like the car's fuel tank is empty (E85) vs a full tank (93). Some days it only feels half-empty depending on weather, tempertaure, etc..
In other words, sometimes not much difference, sometimes noticeably peppier... but overall, not a huge difference like it was going from a stock header to a [tuned] aftermarket header.

Peak gains na will probably be 30 or so hp. That's with header e85. Either header or e85 will net roughly 20 by themselves (tuned of course). So figure a 10 horse gain once you have both. It's auc that gets the biggest bump.

For me, I thought initially there wasn’t a big difference between 93 and E85, but the more I’ve driven it the more I feel the difference up top.its not a huge difference, but the car pushes you back a little bit more than before, and I find that I get up to speeds more quickly than before. I feel like this car can easily pass on the highway now without question.

It’s easier to tell the difference between a mod or say E85 vs 93 when you switch back to the old one. You get used to the more power and pep pretty quick. Generally speaking (a ton of variables and variation to this depending on setup) but header+tune = 20hp, E85 adds another ten. So half the difference you experienced with header+tune.

As far as gearing it should “feel” quicker by be same degree of increased ratio. So 4.1 to 4.56 should feel 11% quicker.
So in terms of acceleration and feel
Header+tune 12%
E85 6%
4.1 to 4.56 11%
Again this is all generally speaking.

Why not add 4.8 fd instead?

If it’s a DD like mine then it’ll def get worse MPG assuming there’s higher speeds involved in the commute along with more noise. Definitely gonna feel quicker but 4.56 seems to be a good middle ground of more pep and maintaining drivability as a DD. All preference though really

I'm pretty sure UEL headers + OFT E85 makes more than +30whp. As I recall most of the dynos I've seen show at least 205whp. If the average stock power is around 165whp then that's at least a +40 gain. I personally love running E85 due to the extra power and how much it helps kill the torque dip. It's also at least $1 cheaper per gallon compared to 93 where I live.

Lantanafrs2 05-20-2018 08:58 PM

30 or 40. All depends on where you start from. Low 200s seems to be the limit for na.

86TOYO2k17 05-20-2018 09:25 PM

Most of those dynos with 205ish hp dynoed stock at 175+ a non ace header plus OTS is lucky to make +20hp and E85 is generally another 10hp. Even Openflash has dynos of OFH+OP+custom tune with E85 their before was 176 and after 205, 195 on 93. Need to compare before and after percentages on same dynos/cars. I’ve seen stock dyno between 140 to 176 depending on car/dyno. Its the % increases that is what should be compared.

Most people who do FD swap don’t notice a drop of MPG, in theory yes driving at 70mph in 6th on freeway you will get like 1mpg worse (which is nothing) but a lot of people record better mpg in city driving. (Depending how you drive) and as for the noise your rpms will be higher by the same percentage increase as the Fd ratio difference. 4.1 to 4.56 is 11% 3000rpm is 3330rpm. Slightly louder but most people then drive 3-4mph slower (bonus less tickets) and noise is same.
For manuals though 4.56 or 4.67 seem to be the “sweet spot” autos a little higher. But FD swaps really depend on car use.
