$400 seems a little expensive. Has anybody found an aftermarket replica or different version?

TachyonBomb 05-15-2018 01:15 PM

Nope, only option at the moment are the japanese OEM/STI lights.

Funk 05-15-2018 09:40 PM

I’m doing the bumper conversion soon I’m honestly disappointed, why not have Day time running lights as a factory option in the USA model of the car and only a JDM thing plus where the DTRL are in the JDM front end it doesn’t even look that great , I’ll have to ground my wiring harness for the DTRL which honestly I hate since I’m a perfectionist but ohh well things you have to give up for a newer look .

norcalpb 05-15-2018 11:32 PM

I read these are not as bright at the oem 17 BRZ Drls, very disappointing.

These are very bright. I've driven behind and in front of a BRZ with them installed at night. The beams cut across the road very distinctly. I was pretty surprised.

Elliotw 05-16-2018 01:09 AM

I had these installed on my last BRZ. Loved the look.

@johan ...I have seen Jay's car, and the 17+ bumper and these lights are a great combo.

Well yes running a daytime running light at night will be pretty bright. But they’re still not as bright as the 17 lights drls which you can see in the above pics.

Still OEM fresh tho.

What are the new DRLs? The boomerangs?

BlaqkHavok 07-13-2018 02:57 AM

i really like the look, but DAMN 4 hundo for a pair of accent lights...

brzgabriel47 10-28-2018 04:02 PM

How did you wire yours if you don't mind me asking. Did you use the supplied jdm wiring harness?

I don't mind spending the $400.00 on them using PayPal credit. Do they match the boomerang DRLs in color temperature?

I basically cut the JDM harness in half. The harness goes from 4 wires into 2 wire, after the transition I cut the harness. From there I took the ground wire from the now cut harness added a terminal and grounded it to a bolt in the engine bay. Then I took the power wire from the harness into the cabin and used a fuse tap to tap it into the DRL fuse which is under the steering wheel. It's a 90% solution. The DRLs don't function exactly like the normal boomerangs. The JDM DRLs only run when the engine is running. and don't turn off with the hand brake.

If you want exactly the same behavior as the boomerang DRLs. You would ground wire in similar way as above. Then tap the power into the headlight wire that powers the DRLs. I didn't want to do this because the headlight wiring is not exposed. So you would have to cut open wiring loom.

If you need more detail let me know.

just a heads up... 150 bucks for the OLM version of this.

I'm doing the 2017 bumper upgrade on my 2013 and got the OLM ones for Xmas. I had fog lights, but I'm not putting them back in...

Forgive me if this is a dumb question...I know nothing about wiring or electrical type stuff

Is it possible to hook the vertical DRL's up to the fog light wiring?

Noction 04-29-2019 06:50 PM

Im thinking of getting these soon. What is the best way to install them? If you ground the negative and then just fuse splice them into the DRL fuse, would they turn on and off with the boomerang DRLs? What is the switch they come with for then?

Thanks for the information. I plan to get the JDM Kit which comes with all the harness and turn on/off switch (Ft86speedfactory $400)
I also got the interior panel and will mount it as the Japanese version.
Based on your description, do you have /use the switch that comes together with the kit?
Do you know whether the 2018/2019 have a prewiring to install the kit directly ?
Last question, does it to take out the bumper?

Thanks

I bought the same kit as you. If I remember correctly(which could be wrong since it was awhile ago). These aren't plug and play because the US cars have different harnesses under the steering wheel and for the lights. So where this kit would plug into there is no plug on US spec cars. So I think you'd either have to buy a JDM harness for under the steering column and for the lights. Other wise you'll have to make a custom harness.(you could use the JDM switch to the custom harness) Good luck on the mod one of my favorites!

Just got a little puzzled. The kit I will get is this:

https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/sub...l#.XQlI1Ov0mUk

and in the description, it says that all OEM compenents are inside. converting some of those harnessing that is included to a custom made is enough. Do I have to purchase any other harness? I thought they are all JDM and have everything inside the kit.

Thanks

I was just sharing the fact that the US BRZ wiring harness doesn't have plug and play compatibility with this kit. I had to purchase additional wiring supplies to get this to work. I am not a wiring expert and so maybe I did something wrong.

Also I did not have to remove the bumper to install these lights.

Dear Elliotw,

I really appreciate your time and the experience you shared. You are the only person I got information regarding these DRLs.

Thanks for the information and it will help me a lot.

Thanks again

Japanparts.com has the lights for $364 for the pair. Those are the original ones.

Quick question, off topic (sorry). The yellow brz, which side skirts do you have, they look great! Thanks

The shipping is around $30 + 364 = ~ $400
Same as the one that speedfactory has.
I think japanparts is selling the same.
I don’t know why the manufacturer part number H4517CA100 is not listed.

has anyone gotten the OLM one? if so how did you end up wiring it? also the power lead is the red wire with the fuse and the yellow is the ground?

AndMsc 07-27-2019 06:42 AM

Is there a vertical DRL for stock bumper GT86 2017+ (Like the ones one the TRD bumper)?

I don’t know if anyone has figured these out, but if not, I will be tackling this in a few weeks once I get my bumper back from being painted. I’m doing the MY17+ bumper conversion. I’m dropping my fog lights, and I’m hoping to wire these into the stock DRL harness, which hopefully will all work with my DD Always On kit.

I have the OLM ones.

Irace86.2.0 09-08-2019 01:26 AM

I installed the OLM DRLs. Oddly enough, the length of the harness between the two lights is so short that there is no way to snake the wire through the body to tuck it nicely. It is so taught that it hangs between the two harnesses like a hammock. I decided to lengthen the harness by two feet, so I cut, soldered, heat shrink'ed and covered up the wires.

I already had the DD Always-On harness, so I tapped into that for the two wires (black and white), but someone could do the same for the stock DRL harness to get their ground and power for the new bulbs. The setup appears to work perfectly, except neither the boomerangs, nor the DRLs, dim when my headlights come on like they use to do, so maybe that is an issue; I don't want to be too bring at night.

Busybee 09-08-2019 01:31 AM

Great! Any pictures for the OLMs turned on and off?
Meanwhile, what’s the always on module and is that for all versions including 2017+?

Thanks

Look up Always-On from Diode Dynamics. It makes it so the boomerangs and DRLs are always on regardless of light setting. I don’t know if it is compatible or makes sense with the MY17+ models because they don’t have a DRL as common standard option/feature.

I just assembled my stuff and have yet to verify in every mode that I’m getting the same operation like I had prior to the install, but it seems to be good.

Busybee 11-23-2019 01:48 AM

Since I am not an expert, does anyone have a write-up or pictures for the wiring? I really want these JDM ones but do not want to have someone install (cutting wires etc) it which might cause issues later. I would like to follow up on an installation from someone who successfully installed it.

Thanks

Busybee 11-29-2019 08:17 PM

Got the JDM DRL and any installation guide or video will be appreciated.
