ecutek inside of KVM: A story of how "not supported" doesnt mean it wont work
Disclaimer: If you trash your car dont cry to me. This works for me hopefully it will for you.
Prereqs: Debian 9.4 Stretch (any gnu/linux distro that supports kvm should work) windows 10 installed in kvm (i used Win10_1709_English_x64.iso on a home N with clicking no cd key. additionally i gave it 2 cores an 2.5gb of ram on a 40gb qcow partion. just look this part up if you dont know how) ecutek cable ecutek dongle Instructions: step 0: Install windows in kvm. Once you are complete, power it off and plug in your cable and dongle. step 1: Right click on your running windows 10 machine and open it. https://i.imgur.com/WUTxPuh.png Step 2: On the left side bar right click for a drop down and select "Add Hardware" https://i.imgur.com/xsxmQpF.png Step 3: Left click on "USB Host Device" on the left panel, then in the main panel select your ecutek usb cable. And click the "Finish" button on the bottom right. Note: You will probably have a different Device ID than mine. https://i.imgur.com/7VaR5Q9.png Step 4: Repeat step 3 but do it for your dongle which is "Data Encryption System Ltd. DK2" Step 5: You should now see 2 USB devices under Serial 1 on the left bar. Confirm those, and start your VM. https://i.imgur.com/t7mu6yI.png Step 6: Download and install ecutek software, and open it up. https://i.imgur.com/WyyFXfk.png Step 7: Do whatever you need to, you are officially a hacker |
Is this just a tutorial demonstrating how a virtual machine running windows can be used to run ECUTEK software? Doesn’t their website say virtual machines may work but aren’t supported? Where was the hack? Sorry, I feel like something is going over my head.
