Traffic warnings suddenly start working after 5 years. Anyone else?
 

Have 2013 brz. When first bought the car in Nov 2012 it had traffic alerts as part of the navigation. It wasn't very accurate and stopped working after 30 days.

Today, now 5 years later it suddenly starting working again. Still not accurate but odd that it came back to life.

Anyone else have this happen this weekend??

Is it maybe a subscription service that is on free trial right now?

Thought I wasn't the only one that was experiencing that. Good to know!

I guess it could be, but what service runs the traffic alerts. Anyone know?

It showed up on my drive home yesterday afternoon.

that's part of service for srius xM? atleast on the Brz unit it is.

I actually call them & had a subscription on that alone.

I have a 2011 BMW where the service never stopped and a 2011 Benz that did the same thing as your car. Both were bought used, I'm the 2nd and 3rd owner on them respectively. Sirius XM subscriptions are screwy. I've had the free one month trial on my BRZ when I bought it and it worked until I replaced the radio 6 months later. Maybe it still does, who knows?

I don't think I would know if they reactivated mine, because I turned those traffic alerts off pretty soon after I got the car. I was driving along with the idiot voice saying, "Traffic jam ahead!" for about 50 miles along a nearly deserted highway. I still wanted the voice directions, so I went in and turned off the traffic alerts altogether.

What I want to know is whether anybody has found an XM head unit that works worth a crap shielding the radio from interference from T-Mobile signals. There are T-Mobile towers all along the major highways I use here in Florida. The interference was so bad I ended up canceling my subscription.

My dad dropped his subscription for several years. Last year they started sending him progressively better reactivation specials, until finally they offered him 5 years for $150 up front with no activation fee. And it was the upper tier package, not just the basic channels. He said, "At that price, why not?"

They keep calling me with offers for $15 per month for six months, then back to regular overprice. I took the call once and asked the guy if I could get the deal my dad got, but they wouldn't do it.

Funny, I just noticed the traffic alerts on my map this morning also (2014). Will have to check if my XM is working later.

Huh I did think my dash looked weird while driving around yesterday. Traffic data on the maps were indeed back.

I was wondering what was going on. The highways were glowing with ! All over. It never did that before.
