If Anyone's Interested...

Nye Toyota in Oneida, NY, has a new (2017? maybe) FR-S or 86 (didn't look too closely) as a "manager's special" sitting out front now, marked down to $28K from over $32K list, I think. It's an automatic which doesn't interest me, so I didn't look at it real close, but it does have some factory TRD options, wheels, emblems on it. Sharp looking car.

ABSOLUTELY no business interest or personal interest in this.. just got back from a NYS inspection and having them mount some summer tires for me. Their service department has been very good so far and I'm a satisfied customer, but I've never bought a car from them and don't work for them.

Just figured someone might be interested in what is probably a good deal. The car has been on their lot quite a while.

There's 2017s new on the lot still going for $22-23k. It's probably been there quite a while because it's overpriced.
You're not fooling anybody so tell your bosses over at Nye Toyota in Oneida, NY that their scheme has failed! :D

Sigh... just trying to be a nice guy. I've never, ever worked for a car dealer, nor been one, and hate selling cars so much that I give mine away when I wear them out.

But.. whatever...

Not today, salesman!

There is a shortage of them around here and the dealers that can get them still charge MSRP. Because there are cheap left overs in Florida does not mean the rest of the continent is the same.

That said the NY dealer may have tried to hard to make a TRD version and the $32K price tag is holding it back. That was the issue with mine. They had up valued it right out of the market and were pretty desperate to sell by the time the 15s were rolling off the truck. If the NY one sits a bit longer somebody may get a hell of a deal on some goodies just like I did.

I bought mine at a good time. Spring arrived late here and they had about 9-10 on dealer lots around the city, which they wanted to move in time for the 18's. Now there are two, which are both base demo cars loaded with TRD stuff, one was going for 37K plus taxes :confused0068:

I am sort of kicking my self for not waiting a month as there is a local pearl white 17 with 10k km selling for 25k CAD through a trade in at a GMC dealer. The price has gone down 2000 since I originally looked at it.
I'm surprised nobody has snatched it up yet.

I really like the white, I fell in love with asphalt but that white is so elegant.
It's a shame they drilled into the upper portion of the bumper. I drive by it every Tuesday as I'm out there for work. Oddly it doesn't have the rear spoiler which it has in the photos.

Is that the OTD price? Probably not. Florida is the worst of all 50 states in taking advantage of car buyers with the dealer doc fee. They have no cap on the dealer doc fee. https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/w...d-you-pay.html

My daughter who lives in FL recently purchased a new Honda Pilot. She found Honda dealers charging $800. to $2000. for the dealer doc fee. NY has a $75 cap on the dealer doc fee.

That $22-23k I threw up is just looking online at what dealers have on their lot all around the country. I know each area has different prices that they can get so that was all over the place and not just in FL.
Take away $2-3k or so on the "managers special" price for the car in the OP and it's more in line with what it really should go for in the first place.
We all know adding a couple TRD parts does nothing to the value of the car, it just makes it easier to sell. Dealer fees also dry up and wither away when you start to walk out the door during negotiations or at least they have when I've purchased.

Not sure if they make these particular cars easier to sell. In fact I think that it is the total opposite with these. Mine sat in the showroom for months without a single offer. I could almost physically see the relief when I said I wanted it. That immediately changed to panic when I said I wasn't paying the $6K extra they wanted for it. I was lucky that the truck with the load of 15s pulled up in front right in the middle of the deal. All of a sudden they saw things my way. Right place right time is what it takes.

I agree with most of this.

I'm getting a bit OT here but only a handful of states have capped dealer doc fees. TN is not one of them. There is no law in TN that prohibits a dealer from removing the dealer fee from the price he gives a customer. All the dealers here insist that if they charge one person a dealer fee, they must charge all people, or they would be open to a class action lawsuit. That, of course is a bunch of crap.
When I purchased my FR-S as a certified pre-owned vehicle the Toyota dealer added a $600. doc fee. I told him to take $600. off the negotiated price of the car and then add the $600. back in as a dealer doc fee. He balked at first but a few weeks later he called me and agreed to do it.
Your focus should be on total cost.

Getting back on track, not sure if this is possible or makes sense, but I would like to see forum members post good/great deals that they have found online or seen at local dealerships on used/new FR-S/86s and BRZs in a dedicated section or thread. Of course this would be up to the admins of this site, and there maybe some conflict with the classified Cars for Sale/Trade section.
