Perrin 25mm rear swaybar overkill?
 

Right now I have fortune auto 500 coilovers and perrin 22m front sway bar and stock rear sway bar (16mm). My friend has a perrin 25mm rear swaybar and Im wondering if that will make my rear end too snappy for drifting.

are you having an issue with it rotating? most drifter guys i know of are trying to soften the rear as much as possible to gain more grip and yank the rear bar completely. 22mm is massive on this chassis, a stock wrx 16mm is a fairly substantial increase in rear bar and is super cheap. stock is 14mm btw

That is a huuuuge rear bar. I'd bump up to an 18 to better match your front 22. I run that combo and found it stayed pretty close to factory balance. This doesn't take into consideration what the Fortune coilovers have also done to your balance.

Diameter alone isn't all that matters... there was some hollow and solid bars available.

That said, Roadcone is right that most drifters want the rear as stable as possible.

I was wondering if that was the case myself, but a quick Google seemed to indicate that it's a solid bar. Even hollow, it'd be a poor match for the front, IMO...

No 25mm solid is way too thick. If you want to try sliding the car via stiffer rear bar, try out the OEM 08-14 STi rear bar. This 18mm bar should be plenty to get the effect you are looking for, and if that isn’t enough I’d start looking at smaller front bars.

Massive sway bars on this Subaru chassis can make the car do some funny things.

I'm running Perrin adjustable bars, 19mm in front, 16mm in back. Front in the middle, rear on soft.

The car ends up perfectly neutral on my setup. I think the 16mm bar has significant oversteer to offer in the hard setting.

I see, I have the 2017 86 so the rear sway size is 16mm, should I put the stock front sway back in the front and get a 14mm sway for rear?

That would be the same balance, just more body roll.

Try stock front 18mm with an 18mm rear.

2017 stock is 18/16, did you find this wasn't enough for drifting?

I'd say your front bar is big, unless you have really stiff springs.

Side note: the Perrin 16mm can be significantly stiffer than the stock 2017 16mm, it's adjustable.

Are we sure about this? I thought I saw someone measure it with a caliper and it was 16mm.
