JDL UEL or TOMEI UEL

And which one sounds better (to your ears). On some utube videos the TOMEI seems to have this aggressive growl (good) that I don’t hear on the JDL. Is that true in RL?

Gruppe-S

I second the Gruppe S UEL. Great sound, quality, and price

I would like to know if there is a big difference in sound between the two as well. I know the quality is better with the JDL but both are very reputable. These are the two UEL headers I'm stuck between too

NRXRaptor 04-22-2018 08:20 PM

Your only option is to hear them in person unless you can somehow get someone to do some sound recording with the same car, same exhaust (minus headers), same tune, same intake, same recording equipment. Only you know what sounds good to you. I suggest browsing youtube for every clip you can find

No real sound difference between the two; it will be the difference between the front pipe/cat back that lets you hear the rumble more.

Gruppe-S if you're on a budget, JDL if not.

From what I have heard personally, the Tomei is closer to the proper Subaru rumble but the JDL are capable of a bit more power with the right tune.

Brzerker 05-08-2018 03:44 AM

IMO the JDL UEL sounds deeper than the Tomei UEL.

Xxyion 05-08-2018 02:25 PM

JDL is going to sound deeper as the piping is a tad thicker than the Tomei piping. WIll also make it slightly quieter (like 1-2 db quieter). Also a lot of people who run JDL also tend to get these ceramic coated so that adds to the sound dampening a bit.

For overall quality you cant beat JDL. You'll get subbie rumble no matter what UEL header you run. But the brand will decide how raspy you will sound.

In short you can't go wrong with either. The JDL, Tomei (and the Gruppe-S) are all well proven and well liked.

Sound wise the best advice is what NRXRaptor said, otherwise the rest of this thread will just be personal preference and speculation.....

.....go for the Gruppe-S its the best.

Bang for buck Gruppe-s/Gent5 headers. Nearly Identical to Tomei with nice welds, merge collector & fitment.

And what's the rest of the exhaust setup?
