Thump on engaging first gear

Car in neutral and clutch released..Then sometimes when I depress the clutch and engage first I feel and hear a little thump and slight forward thrust. It doesn't do it all the time. I'm trying to figure out what could cause that.

It's normal. If you wait 3-4 seconds between pressing in clutch and moving shifter, you won't hear the thunk. It is your syncros doing their job, no harm at all.

Mine does it when cold. In my case I consider it normal.
I've rarely noticed that in other car before (as in other make/model), but almost all motorcycle do that.
