Buying a BRZ from Alberta to Import to BC?

Hey guys,

I've heard there might be one or two unclaimed BRZ in Alberta, I'm wondering if anyone have any idea about importing a brand new car from Alberta to BC?

Also, Alberta only have 5% tax, would it also be a saving going this option?

Thoughts and advise?

:thanks:

As far as I know if you bring a car from another province you have to get a safety check (probably not a big deal) but you would still have to pay the difference in tax when you go to register it. I looked into this option as well but there were none available at the time. Could be worth it, I am looking at a 3-4 month wait currently.

I bought my car in Alberta and brought it back to Saskatchewan. I moved to Sask from AB about 2 months ago and have neglected to change my drivers license so I was able to transfer my Alberta insurance to the new car at the time of purchase. After 30 days the car is not considered new anymore and I can transfer my license and plates to Saskatchewan without paying PST. I will have to get an out of province inspection done on the car which will set me back about $100 but its much cheaper than $1500-$2000 in tax!

In your case, the dealership in Alberta would have to charge the same taxes that BC charges because that is where the car will be insured and registered. If the dealership does not put the tax on your Bill of Sale then you will get charged when you go to register it, But it is supposed to be done at the dealer.

Hope that helps a bit!

Oh thanks for the tips guys. That makes perfect sense. I didn't know the dealer in Alberta would charge you BC tax.

I read the instruction on ICBC's site about registering the vehicle and they didn't mention about charging tax, so I assume I would be able to save on the tax. But from the sound of it I'll probably wouldn't be able to.

Also, I've called the a couple dealers in Alberta, it seems like they don't have the BRZ any time soon and doesn't sound like they like to deal with out of province shoppers either.
