There isn't really any confirmation of a next gen 86. An engine displacement of 2400cc is not very likely. They are working on engine downsizing on all their models.

Bullshit is bullshit no matter what the original language it was written in.

From a MotorTrend article: "The Ascent is the first to get Subaru’s new 2.4-liter direct-injection turbocharged flat-four engine, which will show up in other future models. The horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer engine generates 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque." http://www.motortrend.com/cars/subar...-drive-review/
I wonder if they are contemplating this new powerplant? |
There is also talk of reducing the MPG goals here in the US, which might open the door for some larger displacement after years of downsizing
edit - well the "talk" played out, EPA just announced rolling back the Obama era standards |
Kyodo news is pretty mainstream, "respected" news in Japan, I'd say. It's kinda like the Associated Press, and whatever you might think about them, they don't typically just blow rumors about this kind of stuff willy-nilly. This looks relatively legit. If so, I'll have my money waiting! This would also murder 86 sales over the next couple years while people wait, I'd imagine. More displacement with same dynamics and still NA? That'd be amazing!

This is all I'm interested in:

To be clear it isn't the possibility of there being an engine change that I am calling bullshit. It is the fact that ANY news source can report it as truth at this point in time. |

Article is 100% accurate. There is already a prototype with this engine running around Japan.
Someone spied it late one night, stopped the driver and talked to them. The driver begged him not to take a photo, but the guy snuck one anyway. I won't tell you his name to hide his identity, but this is 100% legit! See the hood and grill? There is something new and exciting lurking under there! https://s.abcnews.com/images/Technol...0325_wmain.jpg |

They just needed something to write about. By 21 they'll probably be electric. Lol

hey look at what Honda did from AP1 to AP2...an increase in displacement would really be the only option if they stay NA as I doubt Toyota/Subaru would try to incorporate something like HCCI into a boxer. we'll see :>

The only thing is that in certain markets an engine over 2L attracts a lot more import tax. So they may not go that route. |

Plus, if ya live in say Japan, going from the 1.5-2.0 L bracket to 2.0-2.5 L is only an extra 6,000 yen (or about $60 USD) per year, so I don't think that is a real hurdle :iono: |

A huge market for cars like this is California, and ARB has announced that they plan to ban turbo's on gasoline passenger vehicles in the not so distant future.

or they will just secede, fingers crossed...although they'd probably just be able to speed up the process of banning internal combustion, so still bad news for CA citizens, unless of course they get sidetracked in their efforts to tax air |

Is a Vecter-Drive radioactive or a gas powered wolverine?
