I'm new here.
Hi everyone, I just picked up a 2014 FR-S Monogram Hot Lava. Stock with TRD exhaust system only has 9K miles. My plans are to track it not a daily. I have a DD so this car will only come out to be pushed not babied at autocross and track days. Isn't that what it was made for? Since I have 4yrs/50k warranty on drivetrain/engine/electrical I can't afford to put anything but TRD stuff unless it's brake pads/rotors/wheels/tires. Coming from a Honda Civic Si with 290k original no rebuilt tranny or engine, I heard many bad things about the boxer engines. Fill me in FR-S/BRZ and GT86 owners. Btw I'm not looking for power cause my Honda is being planned for that. Any input that's positive would be great.

Congratulations on your purchase. Many of us have found the boxer engine to be quite reliable. If you don't plan on power mods, keep good oil in it and don't money shift .... it should give you many an hour of fun track time. PS - if you track in hot weather, some will suggest an oil cooler. humfrz |
Thank you for the reply!! I'll keep researching on what everyone is adding on their cars!! I love cars and have nothing against any brand. I just thought that the FR-S/BRZ/86 is a great platform to learn how to track with. Thank you! What do you suggest in oil cooler, humfrz?

Your engine isn't going to blow just because you don't have an oil cooler. Even before installing a cooler, I suggest getting an obd2 reader to monitor oil temp and installing a pressure gauge. Then, after you get a feel for how your driving style affects temp and subsequently, pressure, you can make a more educated decision for your long-term needs. Meanwhile. Drive your new machine. Enjoy it. Don't do anything to it for at least a year. Spend a lot of time tinkering and take what you read here with a grain of salt. Bone stock, the car is a brilliant exercise in balance between edgy, classic sports car, and modern design. Right down to the choice of wheels and tires, it deserves to be appreciated as a whole. |
