anyone have any good suggestions for LED that are both the DRL and High Beams if needed.

Thanks so much.

Can you give us more details about what you're planning? Where do you want to mount them?

nammie81 03-29-2018 05:36 PM

so I want to replace my OEM halogen DRL in the headlights with LEDs bulbs that are high and low beams.. is this possible and if so do you have any suggestion on brands or sizes?

no. The DRL is the base model is just the high beam bulb running at a lower voltage. if you put LED's in there you're removing your highbeam effectively.

Just buy Halogen bulbs that match the color you want. Nokya used to be the goto for that. PIAA as well.

But do you give up the high beam or low beam? Most LEDs only need about 7v to run. I would think that the DRL low voltage output would be enough to run max output on the LED. Then when you turn on the high beams you would would see no change in brightness. My concern is the LED at max output will not be bright enough to replace a high beam. I'd love to hear from someone who has put an LED in the high beam to know what the output is like. If there is an LED with sufficient output for a high beam then I think it would be fairly easy to rewire the car to redirect DRL output to the front parking lights.

the DRL IS The highbeam bulb at a lower voltage. I mean if you want to just not be able to see go for it.

Seems like you didn’t actually read my post. LEDs do not dim. They will be the same brightness at 7v and at 12v. So basically DRL mode and high beam mode would look the same. The question is, are there any LEDs on the market capable of producing light on par with a halogen high beam. I’m not even concerned about DRL mode, I have DRLs disabled anyways.

If you don’t actually have experience with an LEDs in place of the high beam, don’t bother responding. From my research it looks like there aren’t.

I have seen posts for this so many times that it seems like there could be a market for a pwm controller that takes the frs drl/hi as input and outputs 75% load and 100.. Then one just needs an led that actually would function as a high beam. Issue there is that I think most end up with a hole in the middle of the beam in that housing.

Edit: maybe helpful suggestion to the op, you could try an led projector retrofit. Wouldn't be cheap though.

I’m running LED H11 bulbs as my high beams. I had to disable my DRLs as it would have the high beams on at all times. With the High beams on, it’s a lot brighter then my Halogen bulbs were. If you live out in the county like I do, and have a lot of deer I’d recommend it.

Yeah I have installed LEDs in my high beam and I’ve been surprised by the output. I think the key is to get a bulb that has the LEDs as tight in the center as possible.

When I switched to LEDs both high and low beam, actually every single bulb on the car is LED now, my DRL is now high beam until I turn my headlights on and then I choose between high or low beam.I used OLM on everything up front including the color shift fog lights.
