Pretty sure firestone cross threaded by lugs
 

I bought 18s in February and went to fire stone to have them mounted and balanced, and I specifically told the service advisor NOT to use an impact gun.


I guess I placed way too much trust in them because today when I go to remove my front passenger side wheel to retighten my endlinks and I manage to take 4 of 5 lug nuts off.

The last one is really stuck in there and I can’t get it off.... in fact I think the stud is spinning inside the hub....


I haven’t touched the wheels since they got put on and I’m pretty upset because this is not the first time a shop has cross threaded my lugs, last time I had to replace the entire hub assembly....


Anyway I gave up trying to take the wheel off and tightened the rest of the nuts but now I hear a squeaking noise while driving..... this is making me crazy


Will Firestone most likely deny my claim?

Well that's a pickle.
I'm pretty sure they would bend backwards to deny anything. But then again they might help you out depending on your attitude.

That being said, our lugs nuts/studs are prone to strip. Chances are it just my have been its time.

That would make sense, but the car barely has 28,000 miles and the endlink is loose bcuz I didn’t tighten it enough when I installed the coilovers

Did you buy the tires from them ..??

Did you try some liquid wrench/PB Blaster on the frozen lug .. ??

The only way that you will know is to take the car back to them. Calmly explain the situation. Ask them to fix the stripped/broken stud.

Yes, I bought the tires from them.

Well then, I would ask them to not only fix the screwed up stud, but also take the other tires off and inspect the threads and the studs.

Better have them do it now, rather than be broke down on the side of the road with a flat tire you can't get off.

I have a feeling they will make it right ..... :thumbsup:

They're pretty easy and cheap to replace. The dealership did that to mine, and one of my rears was stuck. I snapped it trying to remove the nut. To me, it wasn't worth the hassle of arguing with the dealer since it had been a few months. $5 for a new stud, nut, and 20 mins and it was done.

Take off the caliper, hang it on something with a zip tie so that the line doesn't get damaged, pop off the rotor, hammer out the offending stud, and pop a new one in. You can use the impact wrench and washer method, it worked really well for me.

Ugh, I wish people would stop going to Firestone..
I rate them 10 out of 10 on the knucklehead scale.

Definitely take it back to them.. sooner than later.

Is a lifetime alignment for $100 worth a new component being stripped or damaged every time you get one?

They managed to snap my friends ARP wheel studs, and TC Kline toe arm on his E36 M3 locally.

Just left the car at Firestone, guy told me he will replace the stud and inspect the others.

Hopefully everything comes out okay

He'll probably replace it with a wrong diameter stud with a different thread size..
then snap a couple more while cross-threading those. :bellyroll:

Did you ask them to tighten the end link while they had the wheel off .....??
