5 0r 6-point belts

I like the seats in my FRS and figure they'll be Ok on track. But how do I deal with the airbags since I need full harness belts. Is there a way to pull the fuses and deactivate the airbags? Better still, how do I safely remove the damned things? If I have to pull my seats for whatever reason, how do I do it safely?

Why do you need a harness? Wait never mind that. One thing at a time.

Let's go off what most of the track safety list requires around here. If you have a harness you'll need a roll bar. Then again depends on the organization and how flexible they are about it.

If you just want to roll around the town with a harness don't. Local laws don't allow it. Unless you get those retractable 4 points they make for jeeps.

If and when you eat shit at the track it's best to have the air bags. I won't mess with them unless I'm going full race car, not full ricer.

If you want to remove your seat or any other part that has an air bag, simple: disconnect the battery. Handle with caution.

If you have to ask then don't do it. Why do you need a harness?

Dude has 18 posts and he's from Florida. Of course he needs a harness, but not a cage, and stock seats.

There's a Wine Country Motorsports next to Sebring -- about 86 miles away from Sarasota. Good place to try on gear, sit in some seats, etc.

Ok assuming he's not an idiot trying to rice his car on the street lol. To remove the airbags all you have to do is unplug/unclip them. Ideally you want to be safe and disconnect the battery then press the brakes for 15-30 seconds until the brake lights don't even come on. I've done them without disconnecting the battery but I don't recommend it.

You'll have to search on the forums if this will cause any issues with the ECU but I don't think so. There's also the airbag module under the head unit (on top of transmission tunnel) but again I'm not sure if you'll run into issues when disconnecting.

However I do not advise running stock seats with a harness/cage/bar/etc. If you're going to do it you should get proper seats. It's designed to work together as a system. Not having part of it will compromise your safety and will most likely be more dangerous than running the OEM 3 pt seatbelt, seat, and airbags.

The Champcar event is in another car so the harness question isn't about that.

My question about harness is to prepare my newly-bought FRS for track days. I've been an instructor for a long time, but haven't been active for the past few years. I run dedicated track wheels and tires, and would feel lost in three-point belts on the track. I'd have to look but I think my current club wouldn't allow track rubber without a harness anyway. No roll bar is required in a hard top coupe, so I'll put in a harness bar. It looks to me like the stock seats will work fine with a harness and sternum strap. I've done that in other cars, but I wouldn't want to have air bags pop when I'm strapped into a harness. I'll go back to three-point belts and street tires when I leave the track. I wouldn't attempt to use a harness on street.

I hope that clears up any confusion.
Thanks
