I am being flashed by incoming traffic

I just picked up my 17 86 this evening and noticed when I got outside of the city into back country roads, that I was being flashed by incoming traffic quite a bit. I counted 4 seperate occasions in the 100km I put on the car.

I had the factory LED fog lights running as well and then turned them off to see if it would help. Is there any chance the adjustment is off out of the factory?

I'm curious if others have experienced this as well.

I get it too. People are really stupid and think you have high beams on. I had a LIFTED TRUCK flash high beams at me.... at a red light, so you could only imagine his face when I started flashing my high beams back.

But then you can't flash people when they flash you.

Well, when you get flashed ...... just dim your headlights ....... :D

Maybe there was a LEO up ahead ...... and you just "looked" like you were going too fast.

(jest ah messen wich ya)

It could be the headlights are out of adjustment ..... but, I haven't read from anyone on this forum that has had this problem.

Except ol @Jordanwolf up there...... but, he might have just been "flashen" himself......:D

Yeah they are bright. Yeah you can adjust the beam level, but you have to do that under the hood, then make sure it's not too low and what not.

Or just roll with it.

Mine came adjusted way too low. Took a while to get that right beam level for my liking. Had to go out in a dark street and play around with it for an hour.

I get flashed all the time when passing some folks in my '17 BRZ. When they see me activate the rear turn signals, they will probably realize that every light in this car is bright!

StraightOuttaCanadaEh 03-23-2018 10:26 AM

Yes. It stopped either cause I lowered the car or cause the lights are broken in and not as blinding now

my lights seem to be either weak or having a weird beam level i have a '14 model and wondering about my lights as well, i bought the car used but with my extensive knowledge its not oem lights as when i went to take it in for an oil change they said they cant give me a new bulb as they are aftermarket? i opened the hood and followed the wires where there was a little black box?:iono: i dont have great knowledge so i apologize if this is pretty vague aha pictures would help im sure but i have none at the moment

Are your brights/high beams on?

EAGLE5 03-23-2018 02:54 PM

You should only run fog lights when there's fog. Maybe your headlights are out of adjustment.

Don't the 17s have the self adjusting headlights?

I've had this issue with my 17 in the past 10 months of ownership as well, and decided I've had enough of the high beam flashes after dark.

To adjust the 17's headlight beam level you're going to need a 5/16 hex socket and a very small driver (I just put on some rubber gloves and twisted by hand). Pop open your hood and take a look at the back of the headlights for a cream/white hex bolt. Attach the hex bit and turn it CLOCKWISE to lower and COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to increase the beam height. Getting the right adjustment may take a few tries, or you could check a youtube video for a proper alignment method.

Enjoy the new peace of mind knowing you aren't melting other driver's retinas!

Just flash your real high beams back
