Toyota wants my car

So in the mail today is a letter from local Toyota dealership that they want to buy my FR-S. LoL, this is just a ploy to sell me a new one. Right?? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0b21e80a96.jpg

Is it worth it to try and parlay a better deal for a new car? With extras?

Very common dealer tactic, they just want you in the door to try and sell you a new car

Tcoat 03-16-2018 04:35 PM

Yes. It is the dealership version of a chain letter. All they want is you into the dealership to try to sell you another. I still get letters telling me how much demand there is for my 2008 Lancer and if I rush right in they will give me top dollar* (don't read the fine print) for it. I haven't even owned the car for 6 years and they can't give the damn things away used.
Do not fall for it as it is a slimy practice.

It's a ploy to get your to roll into another loan on a newer vehicle - but if that's what you want to do, go for it. I get mail like this all the time from my dealer.

Yes. Very common ploy. I own 5 cars ranging in age from 2002 to 2014. I get one of these for each one of them at least 2 times a year.

Yeah, I'm sure my local Chevy dealer has a dire need for my 2004 Suburban, and "my" Honda dealer really needs that 2002 Accord, but I've gotten mailers similar for both of them recently.

One person I know was 2 years into a 3 year lease (not a twin) and the dealership tried to buy them out of the lease early to get them into a newer car.

Honestly it's kind of tempting, I do regret not getting climate control and all those pretty new gauges... But I got the audio Sound just right so.... Plus there's no way they give me 15 grand for a 16 with 55,000 miles on it.

LOL Yes.

Used retail is probably $18-19K

They will try to get you to take $13K for yours, but might offer more if you are trading on something expensive.

Best was when my wife got one for her Outlander. The name and car were written in in pen. I just pictured some poor sucker sitting at a desk writing hundreds of these a day.

That is EXACTLY how they hope people will think.

Oh yeah, this one had a post it attached with the guys number.

You know what? They wouldn't try this unless it worked. I wonder how often this works.

Worked on my wife once. she wouldn't listen to me and it ended up coasting us a pile of money. No doubt it works on many people since they all do it. The reason I hate it so much is that it is an outright lie. They are not "searching for" your car. Hell, half of what they bring in used probably goes straight to auction.

Audio 03-16-2018 04:51 PM

Actually I'm heading to this place tomorrow to get my 60000 mile maintenance done. Since I have the time, I might mess around and see what they'll do for me. Maybe I can get a blacked-out 860 with 18s. Manual of course. But they're going to pay for the sound system I put in it.

Well, why they are "technically" lying. They probably are searching the dealership entrance for your car, they just want you to be in it at the time.
