Old BBS CHs Still Good?
 

I have the opportunity to pick up a set of genuine BBS CH wheels in 18x8.5 +30. I believe these came stock on a 2005 VW GLI and the bolt pattern matches that of our cars. One of the rims have very light curb rash but other than that they look perfect. I am getting them for sub $700CAD which i think is a decent deal?

The only worry I have is the reliability of these wheels. I cant seem to find any information on the construction of these wheels but I'm going to assume that they are low pressure casts. I'm more concerned about strength and reliability than weight. Would these wheels be a better buy than say a flow-formed wheel from Konig that were released in 2017 for ~$900CAD.

Flow formed > low pressure cast.

How about in terms of resalability? Do people care about a wheel that is 15 years old but from a legendary brand?

resale on 700 curbed cast BBS vs 900 Konigs won't be much different I think..
personally I would lean towards Konigs!

Buying things on resale value is not something I do or would recomend to anyone. If you are so worry about selling it and you havent bought it yet, should you really be buying anything in the first place?

Anyways, resale value would probably be the same. Wheels are wear item, they do deform with time (potholes, curbs and whatnot) so nobody would pay nowhere near "new" money for used and old wheels, whatever brand they might be.

BBS has pedigree. So, if that's what you are looking for, cool. Otherwise, I would say New Wheels always look good! I have purchased three sets of Konigs new. They are great quality wheels for what you pay. I had clear coat issues on my first two sets, but my newest set bought in 2016, looks great still. (wheels in my sig)

Those you have installed are the oversteer?

Yes. 18x8 & 18x9.

It’s a nice wheel, but a little on the heavy side - I know you said that’s not a big concern for you, but I think it should be. They’re not lead weights, but they will probably negatively change the feel of the car, and I’ve had heavy wheels in the past and hated them for that reason. $700 is a lot of money, especially given their age and the fact that one has curb rash. They’re worth what someone is willing to pay for them, but you may want to lowball the seller to see if you can get a better deal. Lastly, the +30 offset fits our cars, but pokes out a little bit in the front - I run a similarly sized RAYS Gramlights 57Xtreme 18" x 8.5" +42 wheel, so a +30 wheel doesn’t have the look I’m looking for. Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to try and offer $500. If he bites I'll keep them as spares for when the inevitable pothole claims one of the Konigs. Maybe even replace my winter steelies.

+30 is not a great offset for an 8.5 inch wheel IMO....regardless of how much you're paying that fact won't change.

I see a lot of people get great deals on wheels that don't quite fit right and regret it later.

BBS CH are a really good looking wheel though.

I had BBS RK's on my Fox mustang. Those were the nicest wheels I ever owned, finish was the best metallic. Little bit of dish. I should of kept them, they would of been perfect for the BRZ. I paid $600 for a set at a Panoz auction. Sold them 5 years later for $2000.00

If your roads are littered with potholes I suggest not running low pressure with the BBS CH, as I've seen someone dented an 18" one on an Audi A3 8P with 32psi.

BTW the BBS CH never came stock on the Mk4 VW GLI 1.8T, pretty sure those were the RC. BBS is kinda heavy in general tho.
