Hit Road with my 2017 86
1 Attachment(s)
My car hit the road in front this morning. I wonder should i bring the car to dealer to probably replace the bumper since the car is pretty new or should i take it to local shop and do myself? If so, is there any recommendation around Seattle area?
Thank you guys! |
Whoa, did the road jump out from behind a tree or something?
|
Get some quotes from reputable shops. Most dealers just farm it out and take a cut anyway. Those dealers that do have body shops are usually way more expensive.
And I gotta ask... How the heck did you hit the road? |
My tires hit the road every morning.
|
I thought this was going to be a travelogue.

If you do not go through insurance it will not show up on a report. An aftermarket spoiler will not cover that damage and probably wouldn't fit properly anyway. |

Bumper is sagging a bit there, did the clips get damaged on that side when you hit the road? Or was it like that already because twin?

Sure it can, as long as you're not driving like an asshole and going way too fast for the conditions.

Caution ...... his base price is reasonable ..... but, everything else is ah-la-cart: * electricity * tools (by the tool) * heat * light * water * rags/paper towels * if you want the door closed * access to the lounge * restroom access * internet access * weekend sir charges And, of course, he will be available for consultation ....... to tell you how you are doing it all wrong. :D humfrz PS .... OK, I'm late ...... again ...... it's hard to keep up with you working people ......:iono: |

I reckon your plan of action would depend on your insurance situation. I don't think your SO's hair dryer and some touch up paint will fix it. I don't know if a PRD person can re-mold that bumper or not. NOW, the next time you take us on a tour ...... I'll expect some better pictures ...... ;) humfrz |
Looking closer, looks like the bumper is warped and mangled. I think OP is looking at needing a replacement unless there are repair methods I'm not aware of. Or that could just be how the 86 bumper looks to begin with... :iono:
Paint might be new enough to get it prepainted to save on masking/blending costs. |

I'm a functional hoarder. :( |
RIP road :(

No offense even with my 16s and shitty stock tires, it looks like you have the trd wheels which are bigger than my 16s this car is extremely controllable in the wet.
|
BTW, is there any recommendation for body shop in seattle area? It looks like dealers are no longer do the body work.
|
I would not expect the color to be the same. My Halo lost a driver side front fender to a drunk guy driving a golf cart (at a vintage motorcycle festival, I would NEVER play golf) When I went to pick up my car from the on-site Toyota body shop the manger's first words were "I was amazed at how close our guy got the color" Huh? this is a new car, no fading, you use Toyota paint right? (wrong) I assumed it would NOT be close, I thought it would be perfect......exact, -I was wrong. Blah, blah, blah matching paint is an art form, not perfect science. I guess I understand. I've never been in an accident or had a body repair done before.....and I'm old. I'm disappointed. If this thing didn't take such a huge hit in depreciation the first year I would probably swap it for the Battleship Grey Focus RS that has been collecting dust at my local Ford dealership, they cant give that thing away.
