Recommended Track Wheels?
Howdy,
I've got a set of beautiful forged monoblock wheels for cruising around town and going to car meets showing up, but I'm looking to acquire another set of wheels which are at much lower cost/easier to replace since I'm sure the track will end up defacing their appearance. What's the current recommendation for track wheels? Here's a few I'm considering for what will be 17x9s. Enkei RPF1s Gram Lights 57CR or 57DR 949 Racing 6UL Wedssport TC105N Any others I should be thinking of? At $800+ a pop, forged wheels are a bit pricey to beat to crap on the track, but I still want something that's going to be strong and lightweight. |
RPF1 would be my choice for the track, I am not a huge fan of their looks but considering their weight and cost I think they are tough to beat for the sole purpose of track duty.

Lots of options at that size/weight/price point. Apex ARC8 and Konig Hypergram are the first ones that come to my mind. If you don't mind importing from Canada, 720Form GTF1's are good.

Since you plan to upgrade to the AP Racing BBK, make sure the wheels will clear the calipers. This eliminates the 17x9 RPF1's for sure, 6UL fit for sure, and I think the WedsSports fit too.

RPF1's, hate their looks but you can't beat them for weight and cost.

Gram lights are the heaviest wheels on the list. The Wedsports are probably the lightest. A lot of forged wheels are roughly the same weight as the RPF1 or Wedsports. Very few are actually lighter.

+1 for 949 6UL or TC105N
The 17x9 RPF1s simply don't clear that many BBKs. 6UL and TC105N are both a bit stronger as well. |
The TC105N are very light for the cost.
We just started carrying BRAID wheels. Not as light as some of the others, but not bad and extremely strong. Think tarmac rally wheel. Any size/offset with excellent brake clearance. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125709 - Andrew |
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124967 They clear the PP Brembos as well. They are proven on track too.
