Future 86 Interior Ideas

Just curious what design aspects the 86 community would like to see implemented in the next iteration of the 86 interior design. After looking over the recent photos of Ferrari's 488 Pista, notably the interior shots, I felt there were some cues that could easily be carried over to the 86. Here's a quick list of possibilities:

1. Start button/more controls on steering wheel
2. Flat bottom steering wheel
3. Shift lights on top of steering wheel
4. Deletion of analog speedometer
5. Dash controls pointed more towards driver, less straight ahead
6. Less silver plastic accents, more dark or carbon accents
7. Deletion of manual parking brake*
8. Alcantra dash covering

*This one is doubtable, for cost and also drift implementations

Here's the 488 Pista interior

Here's the 2018 86 interior

and here's the interior of the Supra prototype. Ehh....

Any other interior features you would like to add / delete from the current design?

I want less buttons on my steering wheel, not more.
Flat bottom wheel would be nice
shift lights would get annoying on a daily, and track guys can add the one they want
Analog speedo is redundant, would be all for ditching that
Dark accents would be nice

No more of that awful silver trim. Pleeeaaaaseee

3. Shift lights on top of steering wheel WHY?
4. Deletion of analog speedometer MEH again
5. Dash controls pointed more towards driver, less straight ahead 2 degrees matters?
6. Less silver plastic accents, more dark or carbon accents Be fake and look like it anyway
7. Deletion of manual parking brake* REALLY? Good thing you qualified that
8. Alcantra dash covering Canada already has this (sort of)

Leave the fancy crap for the big boys. I don't need more of anything and certainly do not want the price increases it would bring.

1. Start button/more controls on steering wheel -Less buttons, not more, please.

2. Flat bottom steering wheel-I prefer round wheels for track use

4. Deletion of analog speedometer Seriously, the analog speedo is such a waste of space on this car.

6. Less silver plastic accents, more dark or carbon accents The tS black accents are really nice. They look much higher quality than the silver.

7. Deletion of manual parking brake* Don't even.

8. Alcantra dash covering Once again, the tS Alcantara gauge hood is really nice, and extending that over the dash would be nice, but probably expensive.

-Making Recaros an option would be great, and I mean something like the Sportster, not the half-hearted ones in the WRX/STI.

I like NO buttons on steering wheel that is round

I like my manual e-brake

I prefer analog speedo but the one we have is hard to read so I rely on digital.

If I can't have legible speedo I want analog temp, oil and voltage gauges.

I want a radio with real buttons

To tell the truth I had forgotten the analog speedo was even there. The left side of the gauge cluster may as well not even exist to me.

There was a write up someplace that it is required in some markets though.

I'm just gonna go all out and say I hate every one of these ideas.

1. Start button/more controls on steering wheel - No more buttons on the wheel, only button on the wheel itself should be the horn.
2. Flat bottom steering wheel - this would be cool
3. Shift lights on top of steering wheel - silly, the top of the wheel isn't going to be in your LOS all the time. If anything put it at the top of the cluster or in a HUD.
4. Deletion of analog speedometer - agree it's redundant with the digital one, but there might be some regulation mandating it (if not here then other countries it's sold in)
5. Dash controls pointed more towards driver, less straight ahead - I like the way they are now. Plus if they're pointed towards the driver how will the passenger control their climate settings for those with fancy dual zone climate control?
6. Less silver plastic accents, more dark or carbon accents - yep, silver looks silly. Less on the 10 series with the other accents it has though.
7. Deletion of manual parking brake* - I'll never trust an electronic parking brake
8. Alcantra dash covering - looks tacky to me, though I've never been a fan of carpeted/covered dashes.

JustSomeGuy 02-23-2018 03:41 PM

i wouldnt mind less silver and more black

either put the usb slot elsewhere and make it a useful slot or add something to go there completely

a steering wheel like older frs models but maybe a more "sporty" shape with no buttons

better ac contols, i dont know what the new model is like but the older ones were very cheap to me (non dual climate)

the gauge cluster needs work lol i dont even use the left side cause i find the needle painful to look at

and a more complete look all around, i feel like theres multiple shades from light grey-black all around and seems mismatched to me

just my thoughts :iono:

1. I prefer no controls on steering wheel
2. Round steering wheel all the way.. better for drifting
3. Shift lights on top the steering wheel is useless this car revs too slow to warrant that.
4. I would love to get full digital gauge cluster but looked into it a while ago and it's basically impossible unless you can manufacture and program yourself.
5. Don't care much about dash being pointed sideways.
6. Carbon is always nice but $$$
7. Absolutely keep the manual handbrake... because drifting
8. Alcantara is always nice but $$$

488 Pista is (will be after Geneva) literally the tip top of the line as far as Luxury Supercars go.. and 86 is neither of those so having the same interior layout as one would just seem off to me.

Personally, I don't mind the analog instrumentation in the gauge cluster. I do mind the stupid "knee pads" on the center console. Thin them out or remove them. it's an extra half inch of precious knee space.

Change the double din back to a standard 178mm opening. the 200mm is stupid. Steering wheel should be smaller than thicker. i'm thinking TRD girth and MY2017 diameter would be perfect.

Put actual plastic seat belt runners on the seat rather than the cheap button on flap.

Never cared about push button start, but if it had to come with one, do it like the S2000, have it closer to where the ignition is supposed to be instead of looking like an after thought underneath the HVAC controls.

Why would anyone want to get rid of a manual hand brake is beyond me on ANY car. I rather have something that is mechanical in case of an emergency to stop me, not a freakin' button that sends and electric signal for the car to interpret before applying the brakes.

If i had it my way, i'd scrap the cruise control and go throttle by cable.

I'd also go for a manual rack

Those are just my things i'd want.

The only time alcantara should be used on the dash is if you also have 30" rims and a gold/green paint job. Here's a pair of alcantara dice to go with your pimpin' ghetto aesthetic:
