Disable ABS for ice driving course

Hi, I'm doing an ice driving course next week-end, and I need to know how to disable the ABS (the instructor told us to look up which fuse need to be remove, before the course).

I see there are 2 fuses in the engine box. One is 40A and a 25A. Do someone know what each fuse control? Should I remove both, or only one? The goal is to remove everything (ABS, VSC, TC, etc...). I can do pedal dance, but it won't remove ABS.

PS: I don't need people saying it's dangerous, or that ABS is useful...etc. It's on a frozen lake, not public road.

Thanks

I don't see the point in that as in practical driving your ABS will work. I would look up the "pedal dance" and do that instead or just disable track by holding down the button for a few seconds.

It's a "high performance driving" course. Something with elements applicable to rally, not a "how to brake in winter" type of course.

I have no intention to tell the intructor how to do his job. He's saying we need to know how to remove the ABS fuse.

Pedal dance does not disable ABS.

Nico, it's in the owner's manual. If you don't already have one, download a copy. I still learn good stuff every time I dig into it.

There are two fuses. I don't know why but now I'm reading up on it out of curiosity.

I know there are 2 fuses, but they are called ABS#1 and ABS #2, and I don't know if I need to remove both, or only the 40A.
I'll check the owner's manual, but I doubt they will explain what each of the ABS fuses do. I would need to check the wiring diagram, but was hoping someone would know the difference between the 40A and 25A.

From my understanding, pulling the fuse(s) will disable ABS but will also play havoc with the front/rear brake bias which is apparently tied into the ABS system.

I'm not sure that the brake bias is much of an issue with the whole ice driving thing (I live in Texas, so we don't do ice driving since "winter" lasts for a about a dozen non-consecutive days between the beginning of December and the end of February).

Hopefully some people chime in, I know there are a few who've done the ice driving thing and it looks like a blast. None of the ice autox or ice racing threads mention disabling ABS.

I apologize. Tonight I'm the biggest asshole on the forum. Barely skimmed and just... augh! What a dik.

So, after reading up, I'm ready to redeem myself.

The 40 Amp fuse is for the pump motor.

The 25 Amp fuse is for the solenoid circuit.

Fuse pull may put the car in limp mode. Beastronix 86nanny with abs disable works really well, and I can confirm bias isn't totally borked. Not a timely solution for you though.

I know a lot of people ice race their twins and don't worry about abs (as far as I know)

As @cjd said, pulling the fuse will put the car in limp mode. The only way to fully disable ABS without making the system go crazy is with a tune or the Beastronix 86nanny (again as cjd mentioned).

The traction button hold will be plenty sufficient for ice racing, ask me how I know. I'd even say pedal dance is less ideal for ice racing. I've been doing this in my FR-S for 4 winters now.

@snoxracer183 tried pulling the fuse and learned that's not the thing to do. He'd be the even better one to listen to, as he's got a lot more experience ice racing than I do.

I guess some people only read the thread title before responding. What is sad is this is how most people get there news too these days. Reading the headline is all you need right? Hahaha

As others have mentioned, dont pull the fuse, do the pedal dance. You will have 1 channel ABS (basic front-rear) and it allows for whatever shenanigams you want.

I read the whole post. In it he says "ice driving course"and I just assumed winter driving course. :bonk:

Lots of good answer. thanks everybody.
Looks like pulling the fuse is not appropriate. I was pretty sure the car didn't go in limp mode when pulling the fuse (saw it on google!). I may still try it out of curiosity.

There is a good chance the instructor told us to locate the ABS fuse because a lot of modern car can't disable completely the stability control. He's probably more concerned about disabling the stability control than the ABS. But since with the twins we can turn it off completely, pulling the fuse may not be useful.

Also, experiment with pedal dance, but you may find the long press works better. I got really bad ice mode in warm dry conditions with PD... can only imagine how it would be on actual ice.
