*FIXED* JDL UEL Header - Whooshing Noise
*FIXED* Check out post 16 for what the issue was
So got my JDL UEL header installed about a week ago, and I didn't really go under load until I got my EcuTek package from DT this week, and they had me do the 3rd gear full throttle pulls and the car sounds a lot different. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak, but yesterday I literally went under there and retorqued ever bolt since it had been through a few heat cycles. It sounds like its coming from under the passenger side, is this just the sound tube? I was never annoyed by it before on the stock header, is it just worse once you go catless? Here's the clip! Thanks guys. Thinner manifold materials don't insulate sound as well ;) It's commonly reported when people fit aftermarket manifolds.

That sounds awesome. Almost like it's boosted lol. Whoooossshhhh. Although I can see how it can be annoying. When I drive with the seats down, I can hear the fuel being sucked out of the tank and it's loud as hell. Starts to grate after a while, especially since I took all the trunk trim out

Last thing that I will be asking DT about once theyre back in the office is that I had a P015A engine code when I scanned with my bluetooth, but no check engine light, is that just random? Maybe it came up and then went away or is that the disabled code for the cat? When I google it on the forums I find one other 2017 owner with it and everyone told him it was a bad O2 |

Still can't wrap my head around how people would even think that makes a difference in this case.:bonk: |

Point still stands though. |
I was beginning to think maybe the catless header life just wasn't for me, since I couldn't handle the "normal" noises. But I contacted my tuner, Zach from DT, and he told me the noises were not in fact normal and to check for a leak.
So I went ahead and ordered an overpipe since I was going to be taking it all apart again and replacing gaskets and first I found this: https://i.imgur.com/TQQxJwE.jpg?1 I was actually pumped that I wasn't crazy, so I got to work and replaced the OP with all new gaskets, the real ones, not whatever fabric JDL gives you, and turned on the car. Pure bliss was the noise I heard, the idle was 40-50% quieter, the weird ticks and everything I heard before were gone. I went to the highway and floored it, and it sounded like the perfect rumbly flat 4 I was hoping it would sound like, and it pulled even harder than before. No more whooshing noise. After knowing what it's supposed to sound like now, it was 100% a bad leak before, but never having heard one before I just assumed it was the catless noises. Just wanted to update this so if any one else was having issues they could stumble upon it with google. Thanks everyone! |
