Need HELP New Born On the way! Car SEAT Suggestions !?
 

As the title reads (sorry if this has already been answered)

I have a new born on the way and Ive seen a lot of suggestions for car seats in the rear, children 1 and older.
Please dont waste time telling me that this is a bad idea or to buy another vehicle as i cant. Im not one to dwell on things that cant be changed.

But

Im looking for help from the frs/brz community in finding and purchasing a car seat, i have a budget of 500$ CAD

Looking for the following features:

Car Seat Fits in rear of my FRS (2013)
Car Seat Convertible (Stroller+ car seat 2 in 1)
Car Seat grows with child. ie. can be used as booster seat eventually. The same goes for the stroller.

Any help much appreciated.

You will not likely find that.

Keep in mind you will need an infant seat and then a convertible, but the convertible sizes generally make the passenger seat absolutely worthless.

I have a britax system and the stroller / car seat combo is great. It fits fairly well......in an SUV. Doesn't come close to working with any usable passenger legroom in the brz.

Britax are widely regarded as one of the safest options. Good luck, but I found it much easier to just use a different car.

It will not work with a stroller, but will work as a rear-facing infant seat and adjust to front-facing as they get bigger.

The problem is you will have to have the front seat all the way forward in rear-facing mode and actually getting a child in the rear facing configuration is a pain... I put my both my kids in once and will probably never do it again!

I don't think I have seen a 4 in1 that combines with a stroller, I think you need to either get a Graco/Chicco/etc infant bucket/stroller combo, or a fixed 4 in 1. I don't know if you can unplug the passenger airbag sensor (defaulting it to OFF) on these cars, but that might be worth looking into as well because getting a baby in and out of the back, especially in a fixed 4 in 1, is going to be a huge PITA. As long as the airbag is off I really don't see much of a safety issue, especially in the rear-facing configuration.

Do not put the baby in the front seat no matter how inconvenient the rear is. There is no effective way to fasten the baby seat in the front.

Seatbelt?

Quickly skimming the forums, I saw this image of a rear facing childseat.... it doesn't look good if you need a front passenger.

also doesn't look good for that baby in the event of an accident...the belt is supposed to go through the frame, right above that giant arrow, lol.

No. The seatbelt is designed for an average adult size shape and weight not a car seat. The proper tether attachments for car seats are on the rear window deck.

I'm sure they have it tethered through the latch system, but I know with my base it doesn't even try to sit flat with the seat curves.

Also keep in mind, infant seats that are removable are different than the convertibles. They're also significantly larger in most cases. Although the convertibles can get ludicrously big in some cases. My wife and I didn't buy a double cab silverado because the infant seat wouldn't fit without infringing on passenger seat legroom a ton. To use the infant seat we wanted due to safety ratings almost required us to buy a crew cab truck in that situation.

I honestly feel like it's a conspiracy with the NHTSA to make these seats bigger and bigger so people have to buy bigger vehicles, with bigger loans, and keep the average person locked down in to a never ending cycle of debt / repayment lol. It's also a contributor (somewhat) in to why vehicles keep getting bigger.

you don't use a tether on a rear facing car seat. The clip on belt that most car seats come with these days runs right through the same spot you would run a seat belt through. I seriously doubt that clip on belt has a greater load rating than the factory seatbelts.

Please do not suggest people put a car seat in the front seats of a vehicle ever.
