And they truly are summer tires. If exposed to 20f temps they need to slowly rise to over 40f before driving, rolling or mounting. Otherwise, irreversible, unwarranted damage is likely. Probably turn into rubber ice cubes.

That price...

I heard they are good tires, im copping those with my new wheel set.

And to add there are way better tires for that price than those pos tires (personal opinion, don't get butt hurt)

On this car I went from:
Primacy HP to
Direzza DZ102 to
BFG GForce Sport Comp2 to
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

The Pilot Sport 4S' are the easily the best street tire I've run on this car in every performance metric. They're not 200TW tires, but running those on the street sucks. By comparison the MPS4s are a dream. Overrated for the street, not possible.

How so? I tried MPSS on the RX-7, was underwhelmed, went back to 200TW tires RE71R and then to NT01s street and track. S2000 even after I stopped tracking it I've kept it on Hankook RS3s.

The couple of times I've stepped back from "Extreme Perf" 200tw tires to "Max Perf" tires, even for street-only usage, I've been somewhat disappointed. Going back the other way, I honestly don't notice any downsides. Even hydroplaning resistance isn't all that terribly affected, at least at reasonable tread depths.

Wear? I cannot imagine RE71R lasting anywhere near what MPSS or MPS4S will.

Racecomp Engineering 02-13-2018 11:50 AM

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are extremely good as a street tire.

Pretty expensive though. I'm torn between 4$ (ha see what I did there) and the Continental Extreme Contact Sport.

Yeah, the Extreme Perf tires wear faster, particularly RE71R. But I've gotten upwards of 20k miles out of Hankook RS3 on the S2000, including a couple of track days. For me, buying a set of tires for daily-driver every 12-18 months vs. every couple to three years is worth it for better responsiveness and handling precision, and grip at the track should I take it there.

churchx 02-13-2018 12:25 PM

ZDan: but imho there are much more people, most boxes of whose were ticked by MPSS. And if MPS4S is supposedly better then it .. I somewhat expect AD08R but with better wet grip and better wear. Good as one-tire-fits-most. Yes, specialized tires may do better at some areas, but as good compromise universal tire for DD and track .. i expect a lot from these, and as new summer tire season will come, given finally normal sizing availability, these will probably be my next summer set.

Yeah I'm with you, I'm not able to justify the Michelins incredible premium to the Contis unless they empirically have better wear, rain performance, etc.

My exact thoughts! I've tried to drop back to MaxPerf and always regret it. I never seem to get all that much extra wear out of MaxPerf vs Extreme Perf. It just isn't worth the drop in perf for me. This was on previous cars though. On the FRS I'm not sure if I want to go with Ex Perf because it's sort of fun sliding this thing around. I got the car in October and the previous owner had 500tw on it and it's obscene how little grip it has right now. Sliding is fun but when you can't hang with a Camry around a turn there is a problem. Hahaha
