When will we start to see camo mules and real news about the next model

There were small news tidbits about the 86/BRZ replacement a year ago. Stuff about hybrid powertrains, etc. Most outlets said it would be a 2019-2020 release. Much more likely to be 2020 now though.

It seems like it's gone all quiet on the Eastern front from Toyota now. Compared to the initial development cycle for the 86 where we saw renderings and concepts almost 4 years out and the new 'Supra' which was unveiled as the FT-1 back in 14 and spy shots of the production car started showing up roughly two years ago.

When do you think we'll start seeing the news torrent and spy shots on the twins replacement?

I think at this point it's going to become the new Z. They'll just keep making the same car with slight cosmetic tweaks for the next fifteen years.

May never see anything because they didn't plan anything or there could be a concept show up at the very next big show.
Those "outlets" saying shit last year (and the year before and the year before) were making it up. One would release some speculation and the rest would build on that as if it was fact. Don't fall for that stuff they just want clicks since that is how they make money.
Toyota/Subaru won't say a word until they are good and ready which may be never.

And it will get bigger, heavier and more luxury like each time until it is no longer even close to what it started out as.

Really doubt there will be another frs/brz for a long time. Sales figures just prove how niche this market is. A corolla sells in a month more than what the frs/brz sold in a year, even during it's peak interest (2013-2014).

Most likely the last model will be a MY2023 10 year anniversary edition with a giant wing, 18 inch wheels, and hopefully 210HP NA. Crickets still a problem tho.

Don't get caught up in the sales numbers meaning they won't make more trap. They are selling what they make and that would be the business plan. They are not now nor ever were looking to sell Corolla numbers.

The good thing about that is when you see a Z car or if they do the same with the 86, you can't tell if it's a year old or ten years old if it's kept up. So you never go out of style! Also, parts are easy to come by if they don't change it up too much.

Dake 02-11-2018 12:51 AM

Personally, I think the Z looks pretty dated.

Don't know what in my statement indicates being triggered.

They would need a business case to make a new model. Meanwhile, the new Supra is coming. Meanwhile, the twins are still selling.

Like the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Nissan 300ZX.

Yeah. I have a feeling this car might end up being a 'one and done' like the RX8 and the S2000.

Maybe they're waiting to see what kind of buzz and initial sales the 'Supra' does before committing to another 86.

Or the Miata/MX5. NA was truly lightweight at a smidge under 950kg. NB gained about 100kg, then NC added another 100kg. Though the ND shaved about 100 off.
