What's up everyone! I used to be pretty active here when I had my 15 Series.Blue:

https://i.imgur.com/AYPRHu8.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/u7XQmGD.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/kVoAJkK.jpg

I made a grave mistake of getting bored of NA, and not trying turbo (I had reasons I couldn't do it at the time) and sold her :(

So then I started looking for a WRX/STI. My favorite years are the hawkeye and the stinkeye hatch, but I couldn't find a clean hawkeye nor a hatch. So I settled for a sedan.

https://i.imgur.com/a9XHrjq.jpg

I kept the sedan for less than a month, and sold it. I broke even thankfully :)

spicyricecake 02-10-2018 10:47 AM

I then went to pick up an S2000 in GA from an enthusiast. It had 50k miles, all stock except wheels, and in the pictures it looked perfect. But boy, I was in for a treat...

https://i.imgur.com/cHujmhm.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/p3S3JKv.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/0ttvOWk.jpg

the soft top tear/patch was bigger than I expected, the paint was in horrible shape, and the bumpers had been repainted though all the VINs were in tact and carfax was clean. Despite the condition this was probably the best stock car I've driven so far. The way this car delivers power is so dramatic, and with 255 rubber it felt so planted. I really liked this car, but I'm a bit of a detail freak and the fiancee absolutely hated it. It was loud on the highway, sometimes a little scary driving due to the soft top, and just overall making me feel terrible about my purchase. I sold the car for a small loss not too long after.

spicyricecake 02-10-2018 10:48 AM

Then I finally moved on to the most perfect example of a hatch STI. 18000 miles, all stock, owned by an older couple that really took care of the car. I went stage 2+ a week after buying the car, and absolutely loved the car. It was practical, felt very torquey, and just such a unique looking car all around. My only complaint was the dated interior and gas mileage, but I could overlook that. I even won a Subaru halloween car show when it was 100% stock!

https://i.imgur.com/fRq4Xen.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/44G0J94.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/2KsYMQj.jpg

I started going to motor sports events, and when I found out that people in 140 hp miatas were putting down way faster times than I was, I knew that power wasn't everything.

Someone came along and offered to buy the car w/ all the mods on it, and I ultimately made the decision to sell the hatch also. I just couldn't envision the build. The car was great, and I loved driving it, but it just didn't feel like it was meant to be my car.

spicyricecake 02-10-2018 10:48 AM

So there it is. I admit leaving the 86 was a mistake. :) Before I picked up the 17 PP BRZ (my first brand new car!), I seriously considered an S2000 CR, or a very clean AP2, or an ND RF in white.
I could not find any s2000 CR in GPW for less than 35k in the nation, and no AP2 w/ black or all red interior nearby. Before I could even test drive the ND RF, my friends and family told me that I would probably just end up selling the miata and coming to the 86 anyway.

The 2017 face lift and performance package is so beautiful in every way. I've always been a fan of the first gen with the right mods or headlights/taillights, but I think the 2017 just looks so much more aggressive. the new headlights are mean looking, and the performance package is a bargain. This was a 2017 fresh off the truck, and it was 1.5 months away from the 2018s rolling out. I got it for a steal, and I'm very happy with the car so far. The shorter gearing also helps in making the car feel a bit quicker.

I went over to my friend's house (the red AP1 owner in the pictures) to get a full wash/clay/seal done to protect the paint to start the journey the right way. This time the car came with no dealer installed swirls, and I am determined to keep the paint in pristine condition.

Thanks to @CSG Mike, I finally decided on my coilovers.

With the 2015 BRZ, I went the exhaust route first, but with this car I wanted to try wheels/suspension/tires first. I ultimately decided on Flex A with the advice from Mike on the fact that I plan to attend track/autocross events, and this set up has a lot of R&D from CSG for this application.

I won't get them till April, so I might end up getting other mods done first, who knows :P

Can you tell us a bit about the CSG spec Teins? Looks like there isn't any info on their site yet. I think I'm going RCE, but this has my attention!

CSG could probably explain better but from my perspective:

I had a budget of 1500 for coilovers. My options were regular Flex A, fortune auto with swift, csg spec flex A, and other sub 1200 coilovers.

I talked to Mike and expressed that I wanted to do more track days and autocross, and got some advice on damper specs. From what he told me these coilovers are custom valved to take track abuse and are unmatched outside of coilovers over 2k.

My small complaint is that I’m impatient and I have to wait for them to arrive in 2 months. Lol!

Hope that helps.

Cool. I imagine they are 1 way? What springs do they come with?

EDIT: Ignore me, I just went and looked at the invoice again. Its taking every bit of restraint I have to not splurge on coils right now. I am envious!

yeah honestly it's a bummer I have to wait till April because I think I'm getting my wheels soon, but I did not want to go into the 2k price tag for coils (ohlins would have been my choice), so it was a no brainer to get CSG spec Flex A.

spicyricecake 03-03-2018 07:44 PM

My wallet is seriously hurting today, but when good deals come up you have to take advantage of them.

A local 86 owner was parting his car out, and I snagged:
Ace 350 Type B header and overpipe
Delicious Flex Fuel kit with stainless steel braided lines

I also picked up a second hand tc105n wrapped in Michellin Pilot Super Sports (245/40/17) for a really good deal, and they are in great condition.

Well... 2 of them are at least. the other 2 are still in the UPS truck because the delivery guy only left one of the two boxes that had the wheels and left before I could ask about the second one. They were also 3 days late, and didn't even take my signature!! :mad0260:

They should get delivered soon enough though.

Plan is to pick up a front pipe soon and get the Delicious Flex Fuel tune for ace and hopefully get ~200-210 whp range. I decided turbo is going to wait until I have a garage and more disposable income so I can fix things when it breaks. I'm hoping to get S2000 level of power with this, and I should be satisfied for a good while.

The coilovers should be here next month so I won't have to run monster truck fitment for too long :bonk:

I also ordered some track/autox magnet numbers. I'll take some pictures once the car gets a wash tomorrow.

Those are really nice parts to pick up, nice find!

Just curious, but why replace the front pipe? Seems like the stock piece will keep noise down and shouldn't hurt your performance.

From CSG's testing, there's about 7 whp to be gained from a front pipe. I'll probably give up 2 whp and grab a high flow catted from pipe though cause catless is just too obnoxious.

The Ace 350 is meant to use the overpipe. I don't think I would leave it off....I would ask CSG first.

?

I plan to run the overpipe, that’s part of why this header is so good haha.
We are talking about the front pipe, which is what mates to the overpipe.

TheBRZsKnees 03-04-2018 05:09 PM

I'm surprised that a catless front pipe wouldn't make more of a difference. Cats are pretty restrictive. If you plan to go forced induction this time around, you may want to save yourself some later effort and go catless.

Vital 03-05-2018 03:09 PM

Hey man, i have a Berk HFC if you're interested. Its been on the car for maybe 8-9 months and its still on my car. If you are serious about buying i can sell it to you once its off my car. PM me and we can talk about it

Lust 03-05-2018 06:42 PM

Nice to see you back in a BRZ

spicyricecake 03-14-2018 03:33 PM

Small update: the mk1 flex fuel kit was for 2013-2016 BRZ, so it wouldn't fit. Delicious was awesome in giving me information I needed for this.
I ended up selling the kit so I will likely just run 93. I should still be able to get closed to 200 whp without corn :P

mistople 03-19-2018 08:28 PM

Mmm TC105N and Ace. Nice choices. Bummer about the Flex kit.

Did you get your Teins yet? I want to see those wheels mounted!

ACE headers is gone, Tomei is now in the car and all is right with the world.
ACE gains may be nice, but it was embarrassing to drive with how loud it was. I suggest you get a very quiet exhaust if that's the route you go.

I also have an R400 installed now which sounds perfect with the tomei UEL.
https://i.imgur.com/hvNM62n.jpg

Wheels are still sitting until the CSG Spec Flex A's get here, and I'm contemplating if I want SPL or Verus for LCAs.

A very short exhaust video is on my instagram page until I make a more legit one. Stay tuned. :)

arkanist 04-17-2018 07:01 PM

If you have a chance could you get record the tomei + r400? That is pretty much what I am looking at getting.

First autocross in the BRZ!
8 runs in the rain with the stock primacy tires, lots of drifting, learning, and improving! my last run I had the left traction control button off and really pushed it despite the slides and interference in the rain.
It was a great learning experience and I can't wait to put some better tires on the car

If they are both catless headers I don't see how one could be that much louder than the other. Just the different tone of the ACE being EL

Ace header has better flow, and is louder. It also has a very harsh tone that doesn't help.
Since I've switched to Tomei UEL, it is much better and more pleasant to the ears.
Just my $0.2

Also, just ordered the SPL lower control arms! Thanks ft86speedfactory for making sure it's the new version with the 2017 headlight sensor bracket :)
Car should be getting lowered in 2 weeks.
