Help!

I recently got into an accident! I was at home depot and i was getting out of my car (about half way out) when this guy pulled up in the parking spot next to me and started pushing my door forward with his front bumper all the while I'm horrified yelling "STOP!" I ended up getting it back, good enough to where i can close the door again but the whole point of this story is that my insurance company asked me what mods i have done to the car. I said only exhaust.... should i tell them everything i have done to it or was that a smart move? Thanks again for any help. P.s. the car looks stock apart from the intercooler peaking through. Haha

If they don’t have to replace any aftermarket parts I wouldn’t bother. Odd that they asked.

Wierd. What insurance do you have? And did you get the other guys info so that his insurance is paying it?

Yes sir! We both had USAA, so it should be a pretty painless process. Im already going in tomorrow for an estimate. I chose to go with one of their recommended shops and not have one of the insurance people come look at it.

I did hear recently that USAA is getting more strict on aftermarket mods and wont cover you unless you bought their coverage for a modded vehicle. However at the same time this damage isnt caused by mods (obviously) so it shouldnt matter. Even if you didnt have their aftermarket coverage it shouldnt matter.

Just as important is that no modded parts were damaged. Trying to claim for a damaged turbo or RB kit that you had not included in the coverage could very well get the whole claim denied.

However a totaled car will be valued sans modifications UNLESS the insurance company knows about the modifications, I've heard good companies will pay out for modifications as long as they go with the car when it gets sent to the wrecking yard. Up to you if you think you can salvage the mods or eat the cost and not deal with the hassle.

Call them up and ask about their policy on car modifications, they should be willing to walk you through their process of how they document and what the implications are.
