Sunlounge: The Forum Bar.

How about a thread for stories/discussion on alcohol, cool drink recipes, parties, cool concerts, night clubs and general after hours discussion whilst buzzed/drunk/herbally-refreshed, whatever.

Local to me there's a $34 Groupon offer for 4 beer flights, 2 custom beer glasses you can keep, and a $20 beer credit at a brewry; i'm tempted.

Not as think as you much.

I think you just started it...that being said, I can see discussions of local micro-brews and possible comparisons (sp?). Different locales are known for their approaches to beers/ales/spirits, and it might be cool to find out what kind of beverages are popular and where.

I remember when I was living in Portland, Or. (for many years until '97) and I frequented McMenamins brew-pubs. The burgers were incredible, but the Terminator Stout Ale was to die for. Any of our PNW guys know if Terminator Stout is still a thing?

Asterisked Accolade 01-31-2018 09:11 PM

In my area we have a place called Granite City that is a restaurant with its own brewery inside. I've had their beer flights and only liked one or two of their beers. None of them were better-- in my opinion-- than Amberbach, Blue Moon, or Boston Lager in flavor. I do attest to their beers' strength, though. Two of their beer flights and you'll be on a whole different flight.

In my area light beer is tragically popular. Although i really can't condescend-- my favorite drinks are girly ones like, Maitais, Bahama Mama, Fuzzy Navel, ect.

Tonight however is a Tequila shot night since i'm watching carbs.

bcj 01-31-2018 09:22 PM

In Renton WA at the Cedar River Brewery they had a 9 or 10% dark ale called Hammercock.
Whenever someone ordered it, all the bar staff and servers shouted out "HAMMERCOCK!"
It was an occasion. A friend over from England thought it was cool AF.
Tasted well right too.

This was back in the mid 90s though and they went out of business when the property owner raised the rent too high.

Holy crap that sounds awesome. And naming a 9 or 10% beer 'HammerCock' is badass.

A long time ago, in another Life. I was out on the road attending trade shows. This show happened to be down in the great state of Texas. After a successful show, A few of us all went out to eat. There were drinks being ordered, and I felt like going big. So I ordered the most expensive drink on the menu; one ounce of Louis XIII. (I did not know at the time, but ordering at the table and bar are different. A table order comes with white glove service.) If you order it at the bar, the bartender nonchalantly pours it in a regular glass and hands it to you.

I can describe the taste to you with this analogy. "It tastes like chicken."

Was it worth it.... Not at all, but hey, YOLO Bitches!!!!

My big weakness is vintage Port, say about 1963. That and a plate of good gorgonzola. They are disappearing and getting VERY expensive.

I tried an awful yet somewhat 'fancy' drink recently, too. I always saw those fancy commercials for that way-too-expensive Disaronno on the rocks. So i tried it and it was fantastically awful.

What is way to expensive? $175 per ounce? The Louis XIII was delicious, like all Remy Martin, but you could get cases of the regular stuff for what one bottle of the XIII costs.

Well, i'm a cheapskate, i buy $13.99 80 proof Revel Stoke. I don't pay much for my alcohol.

Sapphireho 02-01-2018 06:08 PM

I usually buy one great vintage port a year, usually in the $200-$300 range, and that is my gift to myself. It usually gets consumed around the holidays, after dinner, while in my jams, sitting by the fire, feet up watching a movie.

Some times you just have to treat yourself to the good stuff.

Nothing says nice and relaxing like a bright ass LED board that says BAR.

@Leonardo, It's actually not all that bad. I can take a shot of it without cringing until i get a cramp. Which is more than i can say for some of this bourbon i have.
@Clipdat, It's not usually on, but when it is you're not facing it so it's not harsh on your eyes or anything.

Like anything eventually you get to diminishing returns. I mostly drink whiskey (crown, jack, or jameson depending on what I feel like) but got into cognac recently. It stafted with regular Remy, then turned into VSOP, and now 1738 as long as its not a huge group mooching off me. Not much difference between VSOP and 1738 but enough to splurge on occasion. Cant imagine trying the Louis XIII.

Had a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue a few months ago and that is close to being an expensive addiction. It was soooo good.

I love Camus Borderies. It is expensive at 130$ or so a fifth, but tastes absolutely amazing!

I'm not a whiskey or scotch drinker. About 10 years ago a friend gave me a bottle of JW Blue for Xmas insisting I would like scotch if I just had the "good" stuff. He told me just how I should have it, one ice cube made from "good" water. I followed his instructions that night. Tasted like lighter fluid to me. That bottle is still in my liquor cabinet minus one little glass.

Lol. I told my friend i wouldn't like it, but he insisted I take it. I was in my mid 40s at the time, I think I know which drink I like and don't like. I wish I had left it unopened so I could of re-gifted it.

It was almost the "Swamp Slime Saloon", but I decided to name it after my lovely wife's retired license plate.

Been collecting stuff (junk) for awhile to put this together. Now I just need to fully stock the bar and throw a party!!!!:cheers::cheers:

Edit: updated behind the bar shot. Added more things from my collection...
