What Factory Extras did you guys get?
Hey guys, my GT86 is arriving in 2 weeks time, and i ordered/considering to order a few extras and i got some questions to those who got similar extras as well:
This is my first NEW car, had 2 2nd hands already, i have no experience with optional extras....and below are quoted prices: toyota sat nav - $1400 Before i start, i must say I'm a newbie towards these sat nav stuff, ANY GT users out there have the toyota sat nav installed?? Is it "decent"? Is it user friendly?? Is it a bad choice for choosing this?? I've read other posts on this forum concerning the fallacy of toyota sat navs and people are claiming that "other" brands do a better job? is this true?:) Reverse Sensors - $525 Would you choose this over the rear camera? Please dont start criticising either one of these options please lol, i have a really bad parking spot at home...:thanks: Blue illuminated lights (floor lights) - $2xx I haven't ordered this but did anyone order this? i can't find any information in regards to this? i was told that this light is similar to the Toyota Rukus? or whatever that bakery van is called. If so, did anyone install this? How is it? Extra Alarm - $500 Protecting my investment....im considering whether to put an extra alarm atm....do people usually get an extra alarm from the factory? or should we shop aftermarket ones?? do all "extra" fitted alarm do the same thing? |
None of those things are factory extras. They are dealer extras. AFAIK the only factory option is the Aero kit on a GTS...
"extra alarm" would suggest it has one already fitted. It doesn't. Just an immobiliser. Alarm may be worth considering. There are many and varied after market alarms available. Some quite simple and some quite complex. Pick one that lowers your insurance premium :) |
FYI, the GTS aero kit is the only factory option (even then it is not completely assembled at the factory). Everything else is dealer fit option, using Australian sourced TMCA accessories.
A genuine reverse camera is yet to be released for 86 (I last checked a week ago though), but dealers have found cameras to install anyway. The reverse sensors and illumination kit (this one is much more $$$ than non-genuine) are genuine TMCA accessories. |
There's a thread about aftermarket head units and in my opinion I didn't really like the sat nav factory one. At last weeks meet a fellow 86er said the satnav drops out quite a bit. Sound system is quite average so you may want to upgrade anyway like most. So consider aftermarket dude.
It's hard to judge reversing so I wish I got the reverse sensors as well.. half the time I leave quite some space in the back.. other 86ers have said the same so they're good. Blur illuminated lights seem cool. No opinion on alarm but adds some extra security. Aftermarket alarms seem yo be set too sensitive by users and so I tend to set quite a bit off with the exhaust I just put on mine.. Wish I actually looked at the extras but dealer never mentioned and I didn't bother.. |
The "extras" I want aren't available at the dealer anyway :P

im all new to this scene, my 2nd hand car before only had a immobolier etc lol:happy0180: |
Speak to your insurance company :P Some brands of alarm are "better" than others and some are "approved" by insurance companies. Not sure how they rate them or shortlist them though.
Just talk to your preferred insurer and see if they have any preferred brands :) |

I'm not at work so cannot check, but for some reason, I thought the 86 used the horn as the alarm? maybe not...
The blue interior LED lighting from the Rukus "limited edition" was a bit gay in my opinion... I know what they were trying to do, but I don't think it hit the mark. You can get a better effect by going to www.hobbycity.com, buying a small strip of LED lights in any colour, then wiring them up and under the dash... might set you back $20 and some time! The Toyota satnav system is very user friendly, but I have also heard VERY good things about the Eclipse aftermarket unit.... |
