Anytime you change the exhaust on a car registered in most states, there are two main considerations:

* sound (noise)

* emissions

The rules (laws) governing these two vary somewhat from state to state and even can vary within counties of a state. Then, what is too loud can vary by the LEO who is listening to it.

So, now, you are back to your homework suggestion, as outlined by ol @Cole.

Oh, hell, if you just change the axle back muffler to another muffler(s) you should be OK ..... ;)

PS - NO, in Illinois, you can't legally run a cat less header, into two cherry bomb mufflers, that have been burnt out and put on backwards and exit out the side of the car ...... anymore ........:(
