3 cars
Hey guys,
Just wondering, who all here owns 3 cars? If so, why, and do you wish you had more space? I'm wondering because we are renting but only have a 2 car garage. All logic says *no* but I want something faster (and don't want to sell my FRS). I'll probably wait until I can buy a house, but I'm bored so :iono: |
I've got 5 cars plus 2 parts cars and 2 projects.
I've got 2 at my apartment, 1 at a friend's garage/shop, and the remaining 2 drivable cars and 4 projects/parts cars are stored at my parent's farm in another time zone. Next month I'll be moving to an apartment with my fiancée, and there are only two spots, one of which will be need to be taken by her car. So I'll then have 9 cars, only one of which I'll have access to at any given time. Life was so much easier that 6 months in my life where the only car I owned was an NA Miata. Just make your FRS faster. |
I have 3 cars currently.
1. 13 BRZ 2. 05 Outback XT 3. 16 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Wish I had more space even though I do have a stall for each car. Sucks in the winter because I have to pull out 2 cars to work on 1. I own 3 because no reason to drive the BRZ in the winter when I have the means to have a 3rd car to daily while my wife has the Jeep. |
i have 3 cars... frs for myself, 2016 ody for my wife and 2011 mazda 2 for my 2nd wife

Before I moved, I had 3 cars with just a 2-car garage. It was a PITA having to move cars around all of the time when I would need to get something out of the garage, the car sitting outside needed so much more cleaning/maintenance being exposed to the elements, and I paid higher insurance rates for the car not being garaged.
A 3 car garage was the only "must have" when I bought my new place. Even so, with the 3 cars, it is cramped. The plan is to put a lift in and open up a space in the garage that way. From experience, I would recommend waiting until you get a place. Of course, car guys (myself included) are not always known for making logical decisions |
Motorcycles is the answer.
N + 1 |
I got BRZ for daily, Mazda 3 (ex-winter beater) and Jetta for wifey.
I could put 3 cars in my driveway and 1 in garage, but currently Mazda stays in garage till I get rid of it (very soon). But its pain to shuffle cars in case I have to work on my or wifes car in the garage or if she have to leave before me as I have single lane driveway. I will be getting rid of mazda soon as I daily BRZ now and getting a project car to work in the garage. |
I have three vehicles.
2006 Honda Ridgeline - Bought brand new - 195,000 miles. Was my vehicle for a few years, then I bought an S2000 and gave the truck to my wife. Now she drives a 2007 MDX. I have the 2013 FR-S. My family moved out of state and left a F350 4X4 Diesel work truck with a Dump bed. So I can also use it when needed. I have a single stack driveway, which is a PITA with the three cars!!! ( the ford truck is parked different property) I'm Thinking about selling my TRX450R ATV to get a small street bike. I really like the R3. |
Have 3, one is dead but thankfully not in the way. Once it's running again we'll have to see what happens. I always want more space. One can never have enough vehicle storage space.
|
1. 2011 Camry - wife's DD (in garage)
2. 1955 Chevy pickup hot rod - national show award winner (in garage) 3. 2015 FR-S - my DD - outside in elements Poor FR-S, it gets all of the worst of the elements here in New England. |
We own 3 (FRS, MR2 Spyder, and a Honda Accord). I have no garage and my driveway fits all 3 but only one car wide so parking in order sucks lol.
The accord is my fiancée's car and I switch between the MR2 and FRS but usually drive them for 2-4 weeks at a time while the other one stays parked. We want a fourth car (need something bigger and AWD) but gonna have to wait for a new house I think cuz parking on the street can result in broken windows too easily. Just park on car in the driveway and park accordingly to what will be drive that day. |

Yea, it would be a 2nd car for me. 3rd is the wife's.
Motorcycle seems the logical choice, but I'm not sure I have the self-restraint to be safe on one. |
I was up to 7 at one time. I've been thinning the herd the last decade. I'm down to 4 now. I'll probably be back up to 5 when my 16yo starts driving.
2 car garage and 3 wide driveway. You get used to shuffling cars around. Why? I like cars. Wish I had more space? Yes. |

I've been sandwiched between merging semi trucks that both wanted the lane I was in at the same time, almost creamed by a BMW blowing a red light, and many other fun stories. SoCal's canyons are heaven for bikes, but you need to navigate the freeways and surface streets to get there.... |

Dangit now I'm looking at motorcycle classifieds. The wife doesn't like the idea, but it does make a lot of sense. |
I have the BRZ, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and a 1971 Jeep Gladiator. I live in a small rented cottage near the ocean with a single carport, so the BRZ gets that. I park the Jeeps in a rented warehouse that serves as my garage/workshop. In the past I have rented an RV storage garage for the same purpose.
Although my own retirement is a long way off, down my way there are a lot of retirees who move into small homes or mobile homes in 55+ deed restricted communities that have single-car carports, but when they come down from up north they bring their hot rods and projects with them. There's a kind of cottage industry around rented shop space with power for those folks. |
Five cars for me: s13 240sx, BRZ, 97 miata, 2010 Mazda 3, 2005 TSX. 240 lives in the garage, brz and tsx in the driveway, both mazdas on the street. Been doing the car shuffle for years so it doesn't really bother me too much.

I just sold my last 1970 Gladiator back in November. Here it is taking a trip to its new owner in Michigan. |
* Own a house with a 30yds of driveway
* 1 Ford Flex (family), 1 Nissan Frontier (daily/util), 1 2002 (C5) Corvette z06 (weekend/fun/nice) * will add a BRZ (HPDE/autoX) soon-ish * Still have 6 years until the girls hit driving age. * Could easily do 6-7 cars without a problem |

I own 3 cars because I can. They all serve a slightly different purpose and in my mind justified the purchase. I’ve worked hard and cars are an enjoyment for me. I have a 2 car garage, but only park 1 car in it. I have a double wide driveway and park 1 car in that and last car on the street. Eliminates the need to shuffle them since none are blocked-in.
I wish I did have an oversized garage which would allow 2 cars to be parked with more elbow room. The workbench, storage self, trash can, fridge, lawn mover etc make it impossible to park 2 cars in it. |
Damn, I don't know how you guys live with 3 cars without your own huge drive way... XD
I mean 2 is already my max...........I'm gonna need a 3 car garage if I get another car. |
Was up to 6
911 Turbo Isuzu Vehicross Acura MDX Ford F350 Toyota Tacoma VW Jetta Yeah I know, a problem with cars. I just F'in love cars and trucks. Would have 50 if I could afford it |
15- Scion FR-S
15- Hyundai Veloster 17- Honda CR-V (Just traded in a Honda Pilot for this) The FR-s is the toy and stored. All vehicles are parked on the street. We don't have a garage or driveway. We're in an older part of the city/downtown. |

Me and my fiance together own 3 with a 2 car garage and an apron off the driveway.
13 FRS for fun. 08 Hyundai Accent for commuting (60+ boring highway miles a day that doesn't get put on the FRS) and as a beater. Fiance's 08 Tribeca because she can't drive stick and it was a hand-me-down from her parents. Also, it replaced my 02 Outback LL Bean that literally fell apart as the bigger cargo car that can transport more that 2 people comfortably. |
I don't think I'd own an FR-S as my primary vehicle. My lease is up this coming summer and I'll actually just drive my 4Runner all the time. I liked the FR-S, but I've scratched that itch and the 4Runner is a better fit for my life. I'm sure I'll miss the FR-S, but the cost isn't worth keeping it. Bonus: my 3rd garage bay will be freed up for working on bikes and my trainer.

3 cars here as of 12/30/17. For 4 years I had a 2 seat sports car and something more practical. When Toyota bought my FRS back, I bought a Miata.
I spent 8 months renting a zip car down the street whenever I had to mount new tires (I go through a lot between autox and hpdes.) Ended up buying a relatively cheap and comfortable daily (2000 Mercedes C280 sport, 51k miles, one owner, dealer service records since new, $3k.) I have a one car garage. 4C lives in the garage, miata on the driveway, Mercedes on the street. |
I have a gt86, a Golf 1.9 tdi station wagon and an '87 Chevy van g30. And 2 motorcycles.
I use the gt86 everyday, for commuting, for trips and for weekend-fun. The golf is for driving around with my 35kg dog, and for those days when I have friends/guests, and the chevy van is for all the times when I need a lot of space. I'm renovating my house, building 2 garages and working in my property and I find a van better than a pick up truck or simply a trailer. If I was living alone I would probably get rid of the golf as quick as possible, but my fiancee doesn't drive the van,so I will probably get rid of it when I'll be done with all the renovation, and replace the golf with a slightly bigger car. I have a baby "coming soon", but the gt86 won't leave. It's a hard life for us petrol heads :) |

Three car fam checking in.
- 2013 FRS - my toy - 2002 4Runner Sport Edition - ski truck - 2013 Prius - family car We have a 2 car garage and plenty of street parking so worst case scenario it's only mildly inconvenient. I'm pretty happy, it's a great trio... Each has a job and does it exceedingly well. TBH, if one was to go it'd be the FRS but I know from experience how hard it can be to get back into a sports car. Long term tho what I really want is a 911. But in the meantime the FRS it's a really solid placeholder. |
