How long did it take you to learn to street tune on your own?

I am trying to learn as much as I can because it would be awesome to be able to build and tune my own vehicle.

I understand a lot of it, but am still pretty anxious about trying anything out.

Do you think you can learn enough in a month or two to be comfortable with building a safe reliable tune for your car, or should I just stop now and leave it to the pros?

I don't look forward to new tunes every time I add or adjust things.

Yes you can learn how to tune your car. In a month or two probably not. The key to learning to tune is to only do small changes on one parameter at a time.

Yes I have tuned some NA cars with HP tuners. Do I tune my BRZ with cam phasing and turbo and E85, No. My first NA tune, I tuned on it for over a year before I was happy with it. Do not want to spend that time learning E85, cam phasing, boost.

If it's just for an NA car, then use the OFT provided tunes as a good basis to compare to OEM tunes and see what's been changed and work out why. Plus read the good threads on here and Bad Noodles Scooby Tuning Guide that can be found on NASIOC is also a bonus. However converting to FI takes some knowledge even if it's SC. A turbo tune would be even more complex.

Yes, I am adding a turbo. I was hoping to learn to tune on my own, but I will likely be starting with shiv, then review those tunes and see what I can learn.
I have reviewed some of your posts (thanks for that). I will see if I can find the article on nasioc. I bought a couple books and have read tons and viewed plenty of walk through videos and more. One day... One day.

Learn what you can and try and test before you go FI. Turbo tuning will be interesting but more to learn with boost control and variances between on or off boost, but it will be big changes from a NA tune. Whichever tune you use, make sure you have complete definitions for Romraider. IMO you'll want to change into the OFT files that have boost cut etc.
