I'd be interested at a realistic price. I think the last full stock setup I purchased, with only a few thousand miles on it, I paid $40.

The stock stuff isn't really really desirable to anyone.

$40 is a steal but generally agreed. I've seen them being given away for free (though with like 50k miles on them). You might be able to get a couple hundred if they're Performance Package Sachs dampers, but that's prob it...

For a bit of reference, I recently paid $280 shipped for a set of '17 BRZ struts with a claimed 750 miles on them, which I think is a fairly decent deal considering they had to come all the way from California.

The set I was bought for that I turned around and gave away because I didn't think I needed them.

Now the dealer I traded the BRZ to is asking if I have them, so I was going to try to find a cheap setup to send their way so they could send me the Ground COntrols I left on the car.

Shipping is the expensive parts the stock strut itself isn't worth much to many people only purpose is to return to Stockton trade in or sell the car as a whole. Sadly but true. As said above unless it's sachs performance strut and spring than you might be able to get hundred(s) out of it. GLWS though

Someone has referred me to newer stock shocks to put some life back into my fr-s. I'm hitting around 75k miles now, how noticeably can shocks be worn at that age?

It really depends on the types of road you drives on. If your car encounters lots of bumps during its 75k life, your shock would be worn as it would be bouncy and takes much longer to settle than new.

I’m in LA roads, almost 100k. The OE shocks are still pretty good.

How much softer are the 17s comparatively? I found a set of older m.y. shocks on eBay but they have 18k miles. I prefer a stiffer setup with less travel
