Round 3 results!

Results are in! We had another record turnout... this time with 27 drivers!! We had several new drivers and even a visitor all the way from Oregon. As you'll see, competition is fierce, and tiny fractions of a second separate the drivers. Each class was well-represented, too!

Congrats to the winners of each class, and great driving, everyone! See below for this event's results. Full season results can be found on our website: http://86drivechallenge.com/#results

Also, welcome to the new drivers to our series: Joe McGuigan, Haven Latimore, Aaron Trout, and Sean Estenson. Note that Joe will be joining the GTRadial Cash Prize/Tire Contingency next time, so we are not counting his score for this round.

Thanks to our sponsors for making this possible! GT Radial USA, Winmax USA, Elite Performance, The Racers Line, Bluemoon Performance, Inc., Verus Engineering, and 86DRIVE.com

Special thanks to Speed SF Track Events for hosting us and going out of their way to make arrangements. They provided free transponders for this event, helped with announcements, and setup the on-track photoshoot!

Lastly, next event is on May 26 at Sonoma Raceway. See you guys there! https://www.speedsf.com/events/2018/5/25/sonoma-raceway

Wow, what a turnout for Round 5 at Laguna Seca! A number of drivers from the East Coast and SoCal 86CUP came to join us at this world-famous track and helped us practically take over the event. :)

We were blessed with pleasant weather, and many Personal Best times were set! Congrats to the winners of each class, and good driving, everyone!

With the GTRadial SX2 tire well-represented, one can see how fun it is to have everyone on a level playing field. Plus, you get the opportunity to earn free tires! Contact us if you're interested in starting out with, or switching to the GTRadial SX2 tires.

Thanks to our sponsors GT Radial USA, Winmax USA, Elite Performance, The Racers Line, Bluemoon Performance, Inc., Verus Engineering, and 86DRIVE.com for making this possible.

Special thanks to Speed SF Track Events for hosting our huge crowd and providing transponders and all the logistics associated with it!

The next event is on July 7 at Sonoma Raceway, so don't forget to register! https://www.speedsf.com/events/2018/7/7/sonoma-raceway

And if you prefer the parking lot, we have that too! Come join us at the next event even if it's just to hang out and check out the cars. :)

Results are in for this past weekend's event - Round 7 @ Laguna Seca! Graced with pleasant weather, many of our drivers got personal best times, and overall, had a blast! Lap times within Stock and Street classes were once again, very close, with Tor leading the Stock class with a 1:54.420, and Neal winning Street class with a 1:49.843. Jeff N. continues to dominate Touring class with a 1:46.684, and special shout out to Kevin for breaking into the exclusive 1:30s club with a 1:39.473 to win Unlimited class!

Championship points are best 7 out of 10, so beginning with the next event (Round 8), you may see some odd cumulative scores. Speaking of which, the next event is Oct 6, at Thunderhill West: https://www.speedsf.com/events/2018/...ll-west-2-mile

Thanks to our sponsors for making this all possible! GT Radial USA, Winmax USA, Elite Performance, The Racers Line, Bluemoon Performance, Inc., Verus Engineering, and 86DRIVE.com.

Also thanks to Speed SF Track Events once again for hosting the event and generously providing transponders for our drivers!

See you guys at the next event!

I think I'm just going to do the skidpad day.

treedodger 10-02-2018 04:22 PM

Excellent. I wish I done a skidpad day earlier.

I would recommend running as much air pressure in your rear tires as they are rated for. And lowering your front air pressure to 30psi. With a lower horsepower car, it's a lot easier that way. It will also give you lots of experience losing and catching the rear end. I found a small clutch kick was the quickest way to start a slide. I found it really helpful to drive a figure 8 course as fast as possible and practice controlling the rear like I was on a road course.

Also, Thunderhill has tire shop that can change tires if you have one fall apart on the skidpad. Bring a couple spare drift tires, so one chunked tire doesn't end your day.

This looks amazing! A couple of questions however...
A) What happens if your auto insurance finds out about this?
B) How does one begin immersing themselves into this?

A) I don't see why they would find out and they probably won't unless you tell them or file a claim trying to pass off damage from a track incident on the street, which you shouldn't do anyways since it's insurance fraud. Even if they do know, it shouldn't change anything. If you wanted insurance for the track that is available as well (Lockton, RLI, etc). Some of them even provide coverage for timed events at an additional fee now.

Though I have known people who damaged their cars on track and were able to get their insurance to cover the damage by explaining it was not a timed event and was only an educational class for driving. Not sure how well that would work but for the most part track days are pretty safe if you do things properly and aren't an idiot. For folks who are more paranoid I see them remove their license plates or cover them and don't post pictures of the car at the track publicly. Some even use aliases when registering so their real name isn't shown on the attendee list.

B) For 86 Drive Challenge, you simply register with the track organization (mostly SpeedSF and a couple with SpeedVentures). Be sure to check you're running with us during registration. The day of you show up and fill out the 86DC classing form. You'll usually find us under the GT Radial tent or where all the 86s are :)

We're usually much more responsive on the Facebook group by the way if you had any more questions.
