Lower control arm comparison
Hello! I apologize if this is revisiting a previously discussed topic, but I searched around and can not find the answer I am looking for.
Long story short I bumped a curb a few months ago. I replaced the knuckle, and all the control arms. for the rear lower I decided to go with a set with adjustment (because hey why not while I'm in there) and got what I thought would be an okay set for DD off of Rock auto. They were the eccentric tab style, and after getting and alignment everything was good.... for about 3 days. I don't know exactly when it happened but I was out shopping and after backing out of a parking spot I could immediately tell something was wrong. I took it back the shop and found out the tab had slipped over the notch that held the adjustment in place. Now I'd like to find a set that has the locknut style adjustment, and I am looking for suggestions on brands. Any info and/or links to the posts I was too dumb to find would be greatly appreciated! :thanks: |
Maybe you didn't torque bolts enough? SPC are the way to go, I hear.

The tech that did the second alignment said the tab was warped and that he couldn't set the alignment properly or it would come out again, so right now I'm driving with my toe and camber out. not very noticeable in the city but on the highway I can definitely feel a pull and I worry about my tire life...
Are the SPC's locknut or eccentric tab style? I thought they were eccentric tab and I cant help but be a little scared to go with this style again even if it's a defective part. The locknut style just LOOKS more secure. I really appreciate your response! Thank you jsimon7777! |
Some options you can consider:

Awesome! I swear I saw a list like this SOMEWHERE but I couldn't find it again. Do you have a brand of these you prefer? As far as quality of production or the companies customer service?

I like MY SPL LCAs, I cannot tell you if/why they are better than any of the other options but they work just fine. I was looking to buy some used SPLs but they had some parts missing, I e-mailed their support with a link to the ad asking for prices on the missing bits and they replied super quick with a bunch of useful info that made me walk away. Gave me the warm and fuzzies that they'd look after me if I was a customer too.

All of the brands have good stateside support, so that is a benefit. Another thing to consider is that the Verus and RS*R arms have rubber bushings at the subframe mounting point whereas the SPL and RacerX do not appear to. |

I am guessing that the pros and cons of that would be noise vs. wear? |

Also, if you want to autocross competitively in the future, I think I've seen on the forums that some classes do not permit the hard ball joints. @Moto-P talked a little bit about the connecting points here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...68&postcount=6 *the full thread can be found here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87014 |
Great info! thank you very much asdf!
