Fuel pump and speed sensor

Had the car for a week and already have issues. Fuel pump issues code p1235 and speed sensor code p0500. They are having someone from corporate check it out on Monday. They put me in a corolla for now...so depressing its like driving a school bus lol. Anyways issue started after I got a car wash. Package came with undercarraige wash even though I didn't need it. Drive 5 mins later and my speedo starts jumping around. Check engine light comes on along with abs and traction light. Cruise didn't work either. Also car wouldn't go past 4k. Ugh I'm hoping this won't be a big issue.

Day 1. 7/23
Spoke with dealer and they had toyota corp working on the vehicle. All lights are off and they want the dealer to drive the vehicle to see if the lights come back on.

Day 2. 7/24
Dealer needs to put 60 miles on the vehicle per orders from corporate. Apparently one of the wheel speed sensors was not working right and was telling the car the tire was going over 200mph. Dealer said I should have the car back later today.

It's possible that high-pressure water reached a connector that shouldn't have been exposed to water, and wouldn't be under normal operating conditions. The only people who wash my car are professional detailers and I; automatic car washes are a big no-no for anyone who cars about his car.

Just had this happen to my BRZ. Lost power and cel. P1235. I did notice that before the cel came on, upon starting the car it was a bit hesitant. I initially thought the cel would be for a missfire of some sort. She's driving fine though, so we will see. I have to take it in for the tail light condesation issue as well. Going into my 3rd week of owning the car.

Quick update. Cel gone will report back if it returns.

I hate auto wash as well. During the awful winters though its needed to keep the salt away.

Did you get your car back? I took mine in for the Fuel Pump CEL, they reported it to Subaru. CEL hasn't returned and the car is running fine. Service Manager seems to think that i lost fuel pressure, but isn't 100% sure yet. Let me know what Toyota corp had to say regarding this issue.

Tt3Sheppard 08-01-2012 01:33 PM

Yea they never said anything regarding the fuel pump. The dealer actually asked me if I could let the engineers take a look at my vehicle and run some data logs to diag the problem. I dropped it off today they engineers from subaru and toyota fly in from california and japan. So there is a japanese engineers from subaru and toyota working on my car right now lol.

Most modern cars now have a "limp mode" originally started by SAAB. When a CEL is thrown the car will shut down most features and limit the car to prevent further damage from occuring.

Update today. So apparently my car got the engineers very excited. They tried to reproduce the problem here and were not able to. However they were able to reproduce the problem back in japan. They tested over and over using similar scenarios. So if you see a recall coming soon you can thank my two days of driving a camry lol.

Ahhhh, not the "limp mode"!

I don't want to jump from a BMW N54 to a Subaru with that! There isn't even a turbo in there!

Let's hope they find the area of water penetration and issue a TSB for that. Assuming that is the issue.

I thought it was a corolla?

Tt3Sheppard 08-02-2012 05:39 PM

Yea first time it was a corolla but I brought it in again and they gave me a camry this time

dyim 08-02-2012 05:50 PM

Maybe if you keep bringing the car in, you will end up with a Lexus......LF-A:)
