Blew a fuse somewhere

Here's the story: a couple days ago I noticed one of my foglights was out. I have aftermarket units that require an adapter. The connection between the light and the adapter had moisture in it. I disassembled the adapter that lined up the pins, blew out the moisture, reconnected the pins, and wrapped in electrical tape. This is what I ended up doing to the other side when I installed the foglights as the adapter wouldn't line up the pins. Both foglights turned on and so I thought problem solved.

On the way back from the gym I noticed that the lights on the center console would not turn on when I turned on my lights. Climate control, infotainment control buttons (but not the screen), and traction control buttons were dark. When I got home I took a look outside and sure enough both my foglights were out. My rear fogs were still lit up

I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem is before I take it in to the shop to do some troubleshooting. I'll probably end up going on Tuesday as I don't think they'll be open on christmas eve

Did you check ALL of the fuses? I blew the "STOP" fuse while installing lights, it caused all kinds of weird problems. It's a small 7.5amp; I replaced it and everything was fine. Not sure, but this may be your issue. It's easy to check anyway...

Thanks. I'll take a look at that fuse in particular tomorrow. I don't have a fuse pulling tool so pulling them out is a PITA

Is there not one in the fuse box? Or am I thinking of my previous car?

Best way to check fuses is with a volt meter while the fuse is still in the fuse box by measuring the voltage on both sides of the fuse during it's operational state. Connect your negative lead to ground and the positive lead to the test point. A good fuse will have the same voltage at both test points. Don't forget to you have a fuse box under the hood and under the drivers dash.

If you don't have a volt meter...either get one or you're stuck pulling fuses and doing a visual check. By the way, there is a fuse puller in the box under the hood.

I 100% agree. Also, sometimes a visual check will not show a partial blown fuse. (it's rare, but can happen)

For all who care I figured it out. I used a fuse puller aka vice grips and just started pulling fuses. The 10 amp panel fuse was blown. The problem was when I 'fixed' my foglights I didn't individually wrap the power connector and the ground connector. I just wrapped them both up, so they must have been touching and shorting. Should have just taken the foglight out so that I could wrap the wires properly with electrical tape. That's what I did just now and everything is fine. That's what I get for being lazy
